The government should not be the ones to control American diets; they have put enough out there for us to do it ourselves. By giving them the right to regulate the way we it is a possibility that they might try manage other aspects of their lives, forcing the population that is not overweight to not have the option to eat unhealthy foods, and society will chose to eat unhealthy because they will have the choice.
If the government is slowly trying to slim down American’s, would not give society the right to control their diets. Therefore this makes it easier for them to get into more aspects of their lives. For instance, “The broader issue is this firmly establishes the government’s role in improving the nation’s nutrition,”(Brownell). This statement shows that they are slowly changing the way Americans eat and could possibly change more. …show more content…

Them stopping that right has upset many people. For example, “ 250,000 signatures from New Yorkers who feel that new policy unfairly impinges on their right to choose what they drink,”(Park). The 250,000 signatures shows that the government should not be involved because the society does not want them too. As Americans should have the right to have any size that they like. In the same way people are going to eat what they want. By having the food labels and calorie listed on menus, it is helpful to some people but not all. For instance, “ We are smart enough to make our own decisions about what to eat and drink,”(Berman). As the statement says Americans’ are able take the information and decide on if they want to eat healthy or not. When people eat out they go out thinking it is a treat. They know what is going into their mouths but still eat the food because that is what they came
