Have you ever spent the school morning trying on countless numbers of outfits in hopes of getting the perfect one? While being able to have freedom when it comes to clothing is great, there are many problems that tag along with it. There are many people who are spending an excessive amount of money and wasting hours of their day trying to find an outfit that they could flaunt at school. The clothing that is worn at school by some students may lead to the distraction of others. Students may be more focused on the outfit rather than their own education. Every day students are harassed by their peers, whether it’s physically, verbally, or socially. Many factors lead into bullying, and one of the biggest influences that plays into bullying is clothing. Nowadays, it’s about the clothes you wear and how you present yourself at school. It is said that your clothing reveals who you are. “In material terms, the clothes that children wore to school were predicated upon their class status”(Brunsma). Majority of the students do not come from the same background as one another, so some students may not be able to afford the newest clothing that is on the store’s racks while their peers may be able to. Students who do not own clothing that would be deemed as “fashionable” or “cool” may not have a high social status as those who own voguish clothing. These students may be looked down upon by others. It has influenced today’s modern society greatly, creating a world that is run by everything that we are taught. School is important not only to the students, but to society since it is the key to success for the future. However, distractions do come into play and jeopardize our generation’s education. One main distraction would the clothing that is worn by students. For decades now, school has been about fashion more than it has been about education. There is clothing worn that is considered to be inappropriate at school by both sexes, and this plays into interrupting a person’s education. There are studies that show that having school uniforms is a wonderful thing. Statistics state that by having school uniforms put in place, there has been an increase in the class discipline by 85%. With uniforms, students will focus on what they are learning in class instead of the clothing worn by others. Not only that, but hours at night are spent trying to figure out what to wear the next day instead of studying. With uniforms, there would be no need to search through the closet in hopes for finding the most extravagant outfit, but the time can be used to study. Parents argue that clothing isn’t the source for the reason why their children are so distracted. However, when you are more focused on what the person next to you is wearing than what the teacher is saying then it becomes an issue. School
In society today, the clothing that someone wears is basically a billboard for his or her personal, or family's financial situation. For children in public schools, fitting in with the popular, or most fashionable people is probably the most important thing to them. When children are preoccupied wi...
Many students lose self esteem when they can’t express themselves. Therefore students should not be required to wear uniforms. This is necessary because most students would like to show their style and technique. In addition, uniforms limit the freedom of expression for students in school. Furthermore, uniforms are expensive and parents may not be able to afford clothing that can be worn at school and home. Finally, students should not be forced to wear
Do the clothes students wear affect how they learn? Does it affect how people treat them? Can it affect the safety of students at school? These are just a few of many questions asked daily by many people here at MHS about the school 's dress code. At first glance, the clothes students wear seem to have little to do with learning. Yet as many people say; your clothes are what make you. This is true especially for a environment with education. Focusing on education and not fashion will help one succeed more. One may see students who get bullied for the type of clothing they wear. Even more if their clothes aren’t “in style” or what the “cool kids” are wearing. Many
As a teenager, clothing is a very large role in your life. After all, your style portrays your personality and the crowd that you hang out with. Most teens spend nearly all of their income on buying the next fashion. But today, teens have to second think their purchases for they may not be able to wear them at their school. Public schools have begun to crack down on the dress code, causing high school students to have to ditch half their wardrobe. The public school dress code is questionable in that is the wardrobe of students really affecting the way they learn and act, and are some of the codes really necessary.
School uniforms are a great way to maintain a level of social equality. There are more positive effects of wearing school uniforms than negative. School uniform makes student’s lives easier because it eliminates the job of spending hours picking out clothes for school. First, having school uniform maintains discipline in school. Wearing different clothing to school distracts students.
Throughout the school year teachers are constantly having to enforce dress code policies. When a student comes to school with the improper clothing, the teacher has to take time out of his/her schedule to deal with them. Uniforms save parents time in the sense of shopping. Many parents take their children shopping for school clothes before school resumes. Students can take hours just deciding, what to purchase and that is just one article of clothing. On the other hand, school uniforms would limit their choices down by a significant amount. In an online article, “Uniforms Save Time, Hassel,” Marcus Ngbea (2007), quotes seventh grader Ayanna, ‘It took only 30 minutes. Before I had a uniform it would take about an hour or so deciding on what I was going to wear’ (Marcus Ngbea, 2007, p.1). This quote is a perfect example of how school uniforms save students time. Having school uniforms are very helpful because students will have more time in the morning to eat breakfast or spend some time with their

Wearing uniforms creates a better educational environment. Therefore, uniforms should be mandatory upon students from elementary to high school. There are many issues around school uniforms . Many people believe that wearing a uniform increases students behavior and concentration. While on the other hand, there are a great number of people that find uniforms to be pointless and to prevent originality. However, wearing a uniform can solve many issues. School uniforms should be required in public schools because their use would lead to higher education. Meaning no distraction,
Having a school uniform policy can help schools provide a better learning environment in the sense that there are fewer distractions for students. One of the major distractions that schools without a uniform policy face is students being distracted by the wardrobe of other students rather than focusing on learning. In a school lacking a uniform policy it is not uncommon to see all different types of offensive and distasteful clothing. In a study conducted by the National Association of Elementary School Principals, sixty- seven percent of principals of schools with a uniform policy in place saw student concentration improve.(“School Distractions Stastics”)
As sad and obnoxious as this story may seem, it occurs more often than one may think. Clothing is frequently the root of many problems in schools. Learning environments would benefit from the enforcement of uniforms by creating an equal atmosphere, which would solve many dilemmas such as bullying,
“When I was in school, students wore their best clothes to school, respected the teachers, and did their work, but that’s all changed,” says Mrs. Lynette Sharp, a grandmother and member of the school board. Many believe that the schools are in trouble, and they are suggesting school uniforms as a possible solution. School uniforms will help parents financially, benefit students, and reduce discipline problems. Every year, parents shell out big bucks for “back-to-school” clothes. School uniforms could reduce the financial drain.
Uniforms should be required in schools because they create a sense of uniformity, camaraderie, and a sense of ownership. Without the stress of competition and violence, students are able to concentrate on their studies and enjoy being in school. Fashion in school has been one of the most noted reasons for students being bullied or humiliated. Having uniforms diminish economic and social barriers between students.
Mentioned in Pros and Cons of School Uniforms, “When children wear their own clothes into school, this then becomes a time for them to judge each other, so it prevents competition and teasing” (Pros and Cons of School Uniforms). When you have school uniforms you won’t be wearing different things so you will become more equal. If the students are equal, it then reduces judgement and bullying between the students and makes the school a better place. Another positive statement on how school uniforms are beneficial comes from, Pros and Cons of School Uniforms, “Many educators believe that students who wear school uniforms perform better academically in school, and a study done in 1988 by Notre Dame shows a slight statistical evaluation in student performances among students who wear uniforms” (LoveToKnow). School uniforms will remove the clothing distraction and increase the amount of time given to the academics. Some students take time in the morning to get ready for school, uniforms will allow that time for sleep and studies. According to Procon.org, “Parents can reduce their financial burden when their children are limited to wearing one outfit everyday” (ProConorg Headlines). You won’t feel the pressure to buy clothes that are in style, or expensive and trendy. Uniforms are easier to maintain. They tend to last longer and can be washed easier than other clothes. Wearing school uniforms create a community of higher educated students and equality to
Having a mandated uniform policy in place assists in easing the burden of school clothing costs by allowing parents to shop for more reasonable prices, because the clothes will look the same regardless of the brand. School bullying can be reduced by not easily being able to determine the more expensive garments versus the less expensive, eliminating the ease with which individuals profile based on income status. Students who regularly bully other students based on clothing choices will be eliminated, improving student behavior. This policy also allows students to concentrate more on their studies than on the next new clothing fad, resulting in more academic progress. Reducing distractions stemming from student clothing choices enables students to concentrate on what they are in school doing, which is learning.
Students are distracted by the variety of clothing they choose to wear it takes away from them gaining inner knowledge. Students choose to wear fancy, strange, or bright colorful clothes. Students become more interested in paying attention to what other students are wearing and what they have instead of focusing on the subject they are being taught in class. Students should be focusing on gaining new knowledge and skills. Wearing uniforms would teach students how to focus on their personalities, inner beauty, rather than their
Imagine having to wake up and put on the same thing you wore the day before and the day before that! Schools uniforms are becoming more common in today’s society. I think that school uniforms have more negative effects than positive. Even if you push a child to wear something that they are not comfortable in they will begin to act out. I believe that public school should not require uniforms. Uniforms take away our ability to self-express. School uniforms should not be required in public schools because of the student’s self-image, their safety, and high cost of uniforms that parents have to purchase every year.
