There are not many positive outcomes expected to arise from this major shift in Texas’ population. In recent years, the Texas Hispanic population has shown to have lower education levels when compared to other races within society. “The average income of an undocumented immigrants’ family is 40% lower than that of native born families or legal immigrant families, causing most people from illegal immigrant background to be the first in their family to attend school.” (Glidersleeve, 41). By having a lower education, this can cause a majority of Hispanics to have low wage jobs which causes a vast amount the Hispanic population to rely on government support for assistance in health care and child care. This issue could be resolved by the Texas government by pushing and expanding the field of education to ensure that a majority of the Hispanic population obtain at least high school diplomas. This may not be an easy goal to obtain but can be done by making education more accommodating to the Hispanic population through the expansion of Spanish speaking schools and through scholarships for college. A huge crisis looms right in front of this country, yet the United States’ politicians do not even take notice. Millions of illegal aliens receive free education every day and it costs the country billions of dollars. California spends most of this money, but Texas does not sit far behind. Not only will this bankrupt and destroy one of the best education systems in the world, but it will also encourage more and more illegals to bring their children to America. Why would anyone expect the situation to be any different? If a car dealership decided to give away cars for one week to anyone that came to the front door there would be no shortage of people lining up outside the gate. It has been nearly three decades since the last time Congress reformed our immigration system. From the Reagan era to the Obama administration, the country has undergone financial, social and political changes yet our immigration policies continue to be the same. Since the implementation of the last immigration reform in 1986, the United States government has spent nearly $187 billion ($220 billion when adjusted to 2013 dollars) in immigration enforcement agencies and programs alone (Meissner, Kerwin, Muzaffar & Bergeron, 2013). The high costs and the increasing public concern has led Americans to recognize the brokenness of our current immigration system and how it has not kept up with changing times. Research has shown 71% of Americans say undocumented immigrants should have a pathway to remain in the country legally (Pew Research Center, 2013). Although Congress and the White House have had numerous failed attempts to pass immigration reform in the past, H.R. 15 proposes an updated bipartisan system that can further secure the borders and solve problems surrounding immigration (Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act, 2013.

Having the opportunity of staying in school is very important to illegal immigrants because that means they can realize the American Dream. It is something that every immigrant that comes to the U.S wants to achieve. By applying to the dream act illegal immigrants from the age of sixteen through thirty five can go to school. They are eligible to stay in school and or go to college if they have not done so. For example some of the immigrant students have immense talents that can be used for America’s assistance, but not being able to stay in school they can not succeed. “Thousands of young people have worked hard. The term “undocumented students” is given to the children of foreign nationals who entered the United States legally with their families, but remained without an authorization. In some cases they have crossed the border illegally as children with their parents at a very young age, some as young as infants. Currently, there are 11.7 million undocumented immigrants in the United States; 6 million of those immigrants are Mexican-born (Preston). Within that undocumented population are individuals who were brought to the States as children. These individuals have grown up in the American culture and consider themselves American, but struggle with being treated as second class citizens due to their undocumented status. On June fifteenth of 2012, the Obama Administration announced the executive order Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). This order will allow immigrants who were brought illegally to the U.S. as children to apply for work permits and avoid deportation (Hennessey and Bennett). President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals is not only beneficial to it applicants but also to the United States as a whole.

Every child should be entitled to a proper and equal education no matter their cultural background, social standing, or immigration status. “The American Dream, which relies on the ideal of equal opportunity for all… Schools are supposed to level the playing field that result from inequalities in family resources” (Kao 2013). No one student should have to bear the burden of an uncertain destination. They at times witness friends getting ahead while their education gets delayed because of various laws that obstruct their pathway to becoming successful.
