Should Homework be Eliminated for Middle School Students? Homework should be eliminated for many reasons. First off, homework does not impact the academic performance of students and gives students and parents stress. Secondly, when students do other activities, such as spending time with their family and playing sports relates to student growth and success. Because there is so much homework, students are prevented from doing these activities. Thirdly, is that excessive amounts of homework can take many hours to do and make students deprived of sleep. To start off, homework does not impact students’ academic performances and instead gives stress to students and parents. If homework does not help out students then what reason is there to do it. According to the article, “homework does not benefit children’s grades and is even detrimental to their attitude about school, their grades, their self confidence, their social skills, and their quality of life.” Homework also stresses out students and parents because it takes up so much time of the day for students. There were arguments about homework in households where parents did not have college degrees. As a result, household stress to goes up. This could result in students falling asleep in class and not paying attention to the lesson being taught. If students don't pay attention in class, then they will fail tests and quizzes which affects their grade terribly. Although homework should be eliminated, there are some reasons why it shouldn't.
