Attending college in today’s society is no longer considered a privilege but instead a necessity. However, many students are forced to attend college even if they don’t have the knowledge or money needed to be successful in what they plan to major in. In this generation, job openings are lowered to a minimum in which most college graduates end up with a college degree but no job to follow it. Not only do some students lack knowledge in which is required to be successful in obtaining a degree, teachers fill their students minds with false hope. However, they are telling kids that they can achieve goals in their life that are clearly out of reach. If a student has a GPA of lower than a 2.0 every semester, a successful four year college experience is not possible. The students aren’t the ones that should be taking all of the blame for not being able to earn good grades, it should also be weighed upon the teachers for not giving them the education they need. Teachers don’t supply, nor prepare, their students with the knowledge that is needed in order to survive college. According to Anthony DeBarros, “ we’re telling kids that they can do it, when we are not giving them the academic tools to be successful. We’re not giving them an education that will truly prepare them to be successful in college” which supports the fact that it’s not completely the student's fault for not having the tools they need. Teachers push underperforming students to have high goals which often ends in a waste of time and money from being pushed to go to college without the knowledge that is required to use the degree earned to their highest
