Police Officers like myself need to understand that the law enforcement profession is a career that requires me to accept the fact that there is a need to always learn. The requirements of lawyers and doctors are mandated to keep up with the new laws as well as the medical technology, just as I have the need to maintain knowledgeable skills of all the changes in the law enforcement profession. New technology in the profession requires that there will always be continual training to build onto the already professional foundation. Maintaining my skill set, expertise, and safety awareness I must to seek out resources to advance my profession because the up to date training will allow practitioners the opportunity for quicker advancement (Valor, 2017). Developing sound Short-term goals (STG) is critical to managing my performance while working in the profession. I need to conduct several self-assessments throughout the year for achieving my short term goals. These assessments are a great practice to ask myself where am I located in achieving short-term goals.
