Short Story: Breanna Plant Her Seed

Savannah said, “I wouldn’t be able to get into college.” I told her to plant her seed.
Breanna got a little off track and said, “I always have problems with procrastination or speeding up and not getting the work done or just speeding up and not looking at everything.” This was not the direction I was looking for but decided to continue on and see how it played out, so I had Breanna plant her seed as well. When Savanah T was asked if she had any self-doubts she said “no.” I asked her again you have no self-doubts, and mentioned that we are isolating these negative thoughts to our topic, and again she said “no.” So I praised her and went on to Chloe aka Cody. Cody said, “that I am not smart enough.” I told her that I still worry from time to time myself about being smart enough in grad school, and that thought makes me work so hard and that it is hard to keep that negative thought out of there (pointing to my head). Then we went around the group to look for the truth of each worry. I asked the girls who said they were apprehensive that they weren’t smart enough to get into college. Cody raised her hand. I then asked her what the truth about that statement was. Cody said, “It probably isn’t true.” I repeated what she said and asked why. Cody said because “because you know so much.” (Cody doesn’t usually talk in third person) I tried to reassure her by pointing out that she is in a Pre-AP class and doing well. Cody said, “I got an A in there.” I asked her is it the truth that you are not smart enough? Cody said “sometimes.” I said there is that self-doubt coming back, but if you work hard and you study and you do your assignments, then are you smart enough? Cody said, “I guess so.” I told Cody to take that bad seed out and plant her good
