When it came to the developmental milestones Peyton was pretty normal. She was able to roll independently by 2 months. Sitting up happened at 4 months and standing up by 5 months. She was cruising freely by 9 months getting into everything she could. Peyton started running by two years old she tripped over her feet a lot. Talking didn’t happen with Peyton clearly until 14 months old, she had words you couldn’t make clear due to not hearing correctly. After the tubes got inserted in the ears Peyton’s speech really improved. Living in a rule area there wasn’t stable enough ground for a tricycle and then decided just to put her on the bike instead. The clip that was particularly memorable was the story of both Katie Worrick and Michael Rehbein’s hemispherectomy. From a neurological perspective, it was astounding to watch both these children survive and function without a part of their brain and if that wasn’t enough they were functioning remarkably well from a cognitive point of reference. I did wonder at first why Katie was still not speaking, but realized that her surgery was still recent when the documentary was made. Just like Michael, who took about 2 years after surgery to regain some of his speech after persistently working on it, Katie too could hope for the same. Having said that, I am also aware of Neuroscientist Dana Boatman’s conclusion that results and recovery times vary from child to child. I did try to find out more about the two children featured in this documentary to see how much life had improved, but could not find any documented information except for an answer to a blog about hemispherectomy by Katie’s mom that said, “My name is Janie Warrick and I live in Richmond, VA. My daughter, Katie who is now 17, had a left hemispherectomy Aug. 8, 2000 in Baltimore, Maryland at Johns Hopkins
Shirley Jackson's 'The Lottery', is a story that is filled with symbolism. The author uses symbolism to help her represent human nature as tainted, no matter how pure one thinks of himself or herself, or how pure their environment may seem to be. The story is very effective in raising many questions about the pointless nature of humanity regarding tradition and violence. 'The Lottery' clearly expresses Jackson's feelings concerning mankind?s evil nature hiding behind traditions and rituals. She shows how coldness and lack of compassion in people can exhibit in situations regarding tradition and values. Jackson presents the theme of this short story with a major use of symbolism. Symbolism shows throughout the setting of 'The Lottery,' the objects, the peoples actions, and even in the time and the names of the lucky contestants.

Michael Rutledge is telling a story that is meant to be entertaining and Andrew Jackson is presenting a speech meant to be persuasive and professional. So they will have very different tones, sentence structure, etc.

Bo Jackson was a football and baseball player that was one of the best of his time. People looked up at Bo and thought of him as a superhero because of his incredible talent in sports. But Bo’s life wasn’t always full of fame, he went through trials as a kid including being bullied for his stutter and feeling as if he did not belong. But he took his frustrations out on the field which got him to become known for being a monster on the baseball field and football field. Bo Jackson has always been talented and very strong, he was able to overcome any challenges that were thrown his way, and he fought full heartedly and gave it all he got.
Having read this over and over again, I would have to say all the evidence points at Phoenix Jackson's grandson being dead. As a reader getting to know each character in this story, I would speculate that Phoenix Jackson takes this trip every year to as way to remember her grandson which she loves so dearly. On her way to town to buy the medicine for her sick grandson, many strange events occurred which could lead us as the audience to believe that Phoenix Jackson might not be in the right state of mind. For example this quote from the book "Ghost, who be you the ghost of? For i have heard of nary death close by" gave me a reason to believe her grandson is not alive but instead dead. Phoenix later realized that it was not a ghost but a scarecrow,
Another side affect of her malfunction is her memory, she lost one year of her memories, and that year is the year before she got her feed, when she was six. She describes her loss of memory as “Nothing. No smells. No talking. No pictures. For a whole year. All gone.” So, she has absolutely no memory of when she was six. There are only long-term treatments such as therapies, drugs, and even surgery. Each treatment depends on the severity and types of CP the person has. Self-care includes physical exercise improving their cardiovascular health, but depends on CP and injury. It also includes special education, focuses on the individual as a student and gets them working in the different areas in need. Therapies include, occupational therapy, stretching, and physical therapy. These include, in order of list, improving daily living, flexibility, and muscle strength and function. Medications include muscle relaxants and sedatives. These will help them reduce muscle tension to relieve any pain they will have, and causes them calmness. Surgery is used to help them get food; gastrostomy. CP can affect their digestive system or swallowing in general. They will insert a tube through the abdomen and into stomach to give them their food easier. The only way to know what your child needs with his//her condition is to see a specialist; such as a pediatric neurologist, speech therapist, neurodevelopmental disabilities pediatrician, orthopedic surgeon, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurologist, pediatrician, and a primary care provider. I interviewed a woman who has a child with special needs. The child is now in kindergarten. The mother reported having a normal pregnancy with no complications. This was the second child for the mother, who has another child who was five years old at the time. The mother disclosed that during the pregnancy, she was in the process of separating from the child’s father and that this caused a moderate level of stress. At the time of the pregnancy, the mother was also working full time as a waitress in a local restaurant. The mother reported that her job required her to be on her feet for long periods of time. She was able to work until around a week before her child was born. The mother reports that the child was born around two weeks early but that labor was easy and the child was born healthy.
I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl named Luna. Jeffrey has taken quite a liking to being a big brother. He likes to hold and rocker her and helps with feeding her. Jeffrey is still a slow-to warm child. He can communicate fairly well and is now using mostly complete sentences and seems to understand most of what I say. He occasionally makes errors of overregularization. He has taken an interest in music and singsongs even though he usually repeats a certain part a lot.
