Shakespeare's View on Love

"To be, or not to be, that is the question." This is one of the most famous quotes from Shakespeare's Hamlet. This play had some themes concerning his view of love, which is something that Shakespeare expressed in his many sonnets. Shakespeare's view on love is that it is neither changed by time, nor persuaded by other means. I am going to be discussing why I am interpretting it this way, using Sonnet #116.
Shakespeare feels that love can not be changed by time. In Sonnet #116, Shakespeare says that "Love's not Time's fool... Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, but bears it out even to the edge of doom" (Sonnet #116 Lines 9 - 12). You wouldn't need a mondernized translation to tell that he is saying love lasts forever. He says that love will stay the same even if it's doom were to be brought. You could say that love is like a person. It grows and ages, but stays the same throughout.
