Throughout my life, I have seen and heard nauseating stories about sexual assault in college as well as the world. Not only have I heard these stories through media, but some of those who are close to me have gone through these appalling tramus. Because of these horrid stories, I have always been paranoid about rape and sexual assault. Going to college next year, I have found that it is important to be aware of the sickening sexual assault that is happening on college campuses everyday. It is crucial for every college student to understand what sexual assault is and the effects of it. I decided to create a flyer to hang up throughout the University of Kansas because it was easiest to catch the eyes of people passing by. Every college student should be aware of the flyer used both written, as well as, visual modes of communication to successfully convey the serious tone I am implying. It has been shown that “approximately one-half of all sexual assault victims report that they were drinking alcohol at the time of the assault” (Alcohol and Sexual Assault). Looking at the facts, these flyers would be placed throughout bars to insure that those at the bar have an engraven image of sexual assault. I chose to construct the pins and stickers to have a black background with white letters “NO means No” in the center and the teal hashtag #KUforConsent directly below. The simplicity of the design produces an easy look for those who see the stickers and pins. Throughout the flyer, I decided to have a black, white, and red color scheme with hints of teal. I wanted to accomplish a connection between the words and the colors. In the flyer, I talk about how there are no gray areas when it comes to someone saying no. I express that when someone says no to getting intimate there is no justification to continuing to push them into doing something they do not what to do. Pursuing to connect the words and colors, I placed a black speech bubble and embedded white bolded letters that spell out “NO”. On the other side, I inserted a white circle and created the black word “NO!”. I wanted to symbolize that when someone says no it is black and white and if one continues the force it becomes sexual assault. Next, I turned the background to a red hue because red symbolizes warning and is alerting to the audience. I chose the teal color because it is the universal color for sexual assault awareness. I found that it was important to include this color because it helps viewers understand that this flyer is for sexual assault. Likewise, it brings color to the handout and
