Senior inquiry has been a very insightful experience for me. The way that I think of certain things such as racial discrimination and sexism has changed dramatically by attending this class mainly because of the pieces of literature we focus on. Though there are many other instances where we looked into these topics. In my opinion, the most critical tool to open our minds to these topics are from in class discussions. This way, we can hear the varying perspectives of each other and share differing experiences on the matter. Working in a hospital requires that you respect, and take into consideration what people have to say; everything they convey should be considered as essential information and accounted for, in the sake of their health. I believe in a way I have learned to realize this in Senior Inquiry because as I stated before, everyone’s voice is heard and listened to, and that in turn generates a welcoming environment for people to express their views and gain knowledge about society as a whole. I have learned of civilised discourse and to contribute it during these types of discussions because no one should feel singled out when expressing themselves. I have also learned that I need to further polish my skills when it comes to expressing my views to people. I in no way feel that I will be attacked if I express my differing views, I am just not every outgoing when it comes to expressing my personal beliefs.
