Abstract Social work is a very large field of work. Social work within school systems is one of the many fields that a person can be specialized in. School social workers are expected to bring both knowledge and skills into the school in which they are working. Social workers within school systems are trained to know each and every concern they may face with children in the school system. As a social worker in a school system they must work with mental concerns, behavioral concerns, support academically and also provide counseling with the students and families. While providing counseling it is also important to come up with interventions to help with student’s needs. Social workers within school systems have some of the same obligations as teachers and other members of the faculty. Many of these obligations include providing a positive setting for teaching, learning, and confidence within all children. Not only is it the social workers job to work with students and families but also with teachers. Social workers serve school systems in many different ways such as skills training, counseling for children and families and also crisis intervention. School based social work recognizes ethical needs of students within the school system. School social workers are constantly working towards psychosocial, academic and psychological needs of children and their families. They also work with children that for some reasons, most of the time person is not in school to get the help that they need.
