Finally, after such a long morning it’s lunch time. I can’t wait to sit down to a meal with my friends, I'm starving. You walk into the lunch line and see that the lunch is nasty. You are so bummed that it was finally lunch. This wouldn’t happen if students were given more lunch choices.
So much food is wasted because most students don’t like the school lunches. According to town times, 24 to 35 percent of the food that the cooks make is thrown away everyday. That is a huge waste of money. It is also a huge waste of time for the cooks that spent their time preparing the foods. There could be so much more we could do with this wasted food. If you give the students more options during lunch then there will be less wasted food, and less

Some students have practices and games after school, and if they didn’t eat anything for lunch then they aren’t going to perform their best. This will also encourage kids to bring snacks to class. If a student is snacking in class the they are not focussing on the material at hand. This also affects the way they act to other students. Studies show that students have a shorter temper if they are running on an empty stomach. All these problems can be fixed with the school giving students more lunch choices.
Students are so happy when lunch comes along, but the lunch that is at hand makes the down and depressed. When students go to lunch they want to be free and able to talk to their friends. Lunch is the time of the day that students get to talk and eat, but many schools make this time not fun at all because of the bad food choices. This wouldn’t be a problem anymore if students had more lunch choices. Some say that students already have enough choices of what to eat at lunch. If schools get more lunch choices then that means more money. They might make the same amount of food, but the more variety the more expensive it will get. With more food choices that means that the food will take longer to be prepared. In turn you will need more cooks doing different tasks trying to get the food prepared on time. Why now do we change it you might ask, well if we wait longer than
According to the Journal of Law and Health schools that have not banned junk food have had an increase in students more excited to learn because of the sugar count unhealthy foods. Looking at the evidence regarding school lunches from the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), students need equal grain and protein proportions to have a healthy daily diet, and over the course of 5 years schools that don't have a healthy lunch program have had their students overall GPA almost completely equivalent to the schools that have had the healthy lunch program. Although having tremendously unhealthy school lunches may not harm your GPA it can immensely harm your health. Lots of average students health are in danger just because of unhealthy school lunches, it is very necessary that schools realize that a healthy lunch program is always a beneficial option. Scientists have found that children who have healthier breakfast and lunch get better grades and have increased brain power. Some evidence points to unhealthy food but healthy food is always the answer in an effective school community. Sometimes unhealthy food is cheaper and tastes better but it can be very costly to your health especially as a
This could result in terrible grades. Also, this would interfere with extra-curricular actives, such as sports. With less time to do homework, students might not be able to do sports, and would become unhealthy. Students can get bullied for their weight or size. Others might not think they are comely. Also, with less time to do work, students can get terrible grades. The consequences of long lunches are unacceptable. We cannot do
We cannot have a school lunch reform where the needs of all students are not met. If only some, or less than the majority, of students are receiving the nutritional values they need, we need to adapt the reform to further achieve better standards for school lunch programs. For example, after a student finishes their meal, schools could offer a second serving of protein to their students. In effect, this will add a higher amount of calories to the students’ daily diets.
Allowing healthier school lunches will decrease obesity in children because it will give them the proper nutrition to reduce the risk of health issues. Since obesity causes many health issues, maintaining a proper nutrition will reduce the risk of health issues. According to Star- Telegram, a daily newspaper that serves Fort Worth and areas of North Texas states, “[School lunches that have] a meal of pizza sticks, a banana, raisins and whole milk has given way to whole wheat spaghetti with meat sauce, a whole wheat roll green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi and low-fat milk … This change will help more than 2.4 million Texas students who receive a free or reduced- price school lunch to lead healthier, more active lives—in and out of the classroom”(Par. 2 and 4). School lunches are supposed to guarantee students a well balance meal, so they can have the energy to proceed with their classes throughout the day. Meanwhile, students who receive a f...
To solve this problem, we need the cafeteria to be open more hours. If it is because of the need of workers in those other times, it is a big change that even students won't mind to work in the cafeteria to have it open for longer hours. Another idea would be to have longer hours open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even if it is not open for the whole day, longer hours might allow more comfort ability for everyone. We know that with out food, one cannot concentrate in their studies, nor perform their work well.
Having different food can affect a child health. There are milky ways, cake, cookies, pizza and lets just add some French fries in there and call that lunch. Don’t forget the drink sweet tea, pop and milk that one doesn’t choose to drink it. The students would go back to the class rooms after twenty minutes and be hungry at the end of the da. Garland said, “Instead, we allow school cafeterias to dispense the same junk food that kids could buy in any mall” (621). There has been so much junk food and soft drinks in schools that makes the student health unsafe and a distraction to their education. Garland mentioned that the students are filling up with fat, salt and sugar rather than filling up with fruit, whole grains and vegetables. Schools should be about healthiness, and well balanced diets. With having Students eat healthy can boost up their energy and ability to learn. With that being said when I was in high school it was nothing but junk food for three years. When Michele Obama changed the law on the school lunches my senior lunches have changed. It was nothing but healthy food like whole grain, no sweets, two scoops of fruits and vegetables. At Odessa they had a school store loaded with junk food that would be sold out by forth period. When the law came to the school there was nothing but baked chip and replaced with other baked nutrition food or we had nothing at all. The drink machines were changed out
The intake of proper nutrients helps balance the maintenance of bodily functions; supporting the longevity of a healthy lifestyle. (Denton, Carolyn. “How does food Impact Health?” www.takingcharge.csh.umn.edu). With constant technological advance in the world, it is important to become aware of how frequent the world changes daily in preparation for self-maturity. What is a more effective way to approach the real world than to have a direct experience? The researcher will address the topic on why community high schools in America should allow its students off campus during lunch. Allowing children to have a better lunch option could help educational strength as well as attend to other essential needs. (Anderson, Melinda. “Do healthy lunches
As I mentioned earlier, school food is not appetizing. Most of the lunches are served everyday. There is not much variety to choose from either. This is when going off campus would be good. Students would be able to get better food with more options to choose from. There are also the students who go home for
Should juniors be able to leave campus during lunch to be able to buy a good meal they actually want to eat? Students do not eat school food because they do not like it. Lunch should be a meal that is delicious, and that people enjoy eating. Lunch should be healthy and enjoyable for the students to eat it and like what they are eating. School food is not healthy because they are high in fat, sugar, and salt. Districts across the country have observed a marked drop in the number of students getting their lunch at the cafeteria. The average daily student participation rate for total lunches served began falling, it has declined by about 1.2 million.” Schools do not give students the choice to eat a meal they actually like. Many students are starving themselves just because the school food is not good or healthy. Students cannot focus in class with an empty stomach. A student can get a good meal from a restaurant near by the school in order, so they
With the implementation of the “Healthy Kids Hunger-Free Act” schools are not serving as many lunches and participation is decreasing. According to the Government Accountability Office (GOA), “Nationwide, student participation declined by 1.2 million students(or 3.7 percent) from school year 2010-2011 through school year 2012-2013, after having increased steadily for many years”(sec. 1). The school lunches became more distasteful and bland; the combinations of foods did not make sense, and the portion sizes decreased significantly. In order to support the cafeteria
One reason our school should get a new lunch menu is many students do not like the food served. For example, a survey was taken and of the 31 students 100% said they disliked the food. As student Bryan Huang said, “The lunches are horrible, they need better choices and more choices.” In other words, the food is not delicious and there are not many choices. Also, when children don’t get proper nutrition they have trouble focusing in school. Most students do not buy lunch because they feel it is unappealing and do not like the food served. Many students go to other kids and ask for food. In addition, many students do not eat breakfast so they rely on lunch to fuel them for the day. But, if they do not like the food served they won’t eat so they starve for the rest of the school day, which can
We can solve this problem by having more choices at lunchtime. Then everyone will eat, and feel well. Kate Murphy said kids will not do as well on their school work if they do not eat. If kids don’t eat they will not have energy for their work. When I don’t feel well from not eating I do not do as well as I could.
Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
While all students might not have any desire to eat healthily, there are a couple of cases of various students standing firm against their unfortunate lunch alternatives. Students should
Many of these children only get a full meal while having their school lunch, so many of these children go hungry the rest of the day.
