Using Education to Change Minds
Educators have been fighting budget cuts for many years. Likewise, students and families have been feeling the unfavorable affects that budget cuts cause. Something must be done to resolve this issue and create a dependable, lasting change that will create a positive and productive budget for schools. By educating law makers, the public, and school administrators, a solution to budget cuts can be found. This solution is necessary to ensure the quality of education students receive, and to create a sustainable budget for public schools. Without a solution, students, teachers, and families will continue to be negatively affected by continuous budget cuts to public schools.

For example, when the high school has several classes that do not have as many students in them because of trade school, the middle school can send students who are taking dual credit classes to the high school to receive the instruction they need. This is already being done in Metcalfe County, KY to help elevate budget shortfalls (A. Trotter, Personal Communication, February 22, 2018). This would allow schools to actually need less staff by sharing between schools, in turn freeing up more funds to be spent in other areas. By taking the initiative and making changes such a sharing of staff, or implementing cyber technology for students daily lessons, schools could show that they are proactive in the effort to fix the budget cut crisis, while simultaneously freeing up money for programs that are needed, without needing to increase the …show more content…

Attitudes and opinions can be changed to align with the needs of schools and children without adding additional monetary resources. This will build much needed trust between tax payers, schools, and government officials so that even more constructive talks and decisions can be made in the future.
Budget cuts are negatively impacting students, teachers and families. Consider how budget cuts to education are hurting families and children and take a stand to stop these actions. Educating the public, school administrators, and law makers will solve the ongoing budget crisis.
