Every college student must be thinking and worried about his or her academic success and educational degree. San Jose Mercury News Editorial, authors of “Remedial costs are too high for CSU to bear” highlight that San Jose State University policy which took place in 2009 is about freshmen students who are required to take remedial classes since their math and/or English basic college-level are not good enough. To notice these students that they need help early, CSU created the Early Assessment Program. Even though, CSU created the voluntary Early Assessment Program which has an essay and two dozen questions that are included in standardized tests given to juniors, many students did not pass it. Even if high schools did not help developing their students to the needed college level, it is still students' responsibility to be prepared for college. Some students may have their own issues for ending up taking remedial courses. It can be personal like mine. Firstly, English is not my native language. Therefore, I have spent about two years studying and practicing English by taking English Second Learning classes or practicing by myself. Secondly, I have studied math in my first language, Arabic, which made it a little more difficult to understand it in English; moreover, I have forgotten most of the basics of math during the gap between my high school graduation and attending college. However, attending remedial classes is not bad. It is very helpful so far to review the basics of both English and math. It should not be a way to discourage students; however, it should encourage students to work hard and obtain what they lack. Amadeo Constanzo in his article “Do You Really Think You Are a Good Writer?" inspires and motivates writers to work very hard to improve their writing skills whether they think they are good writers or not in order to succeed in English remedial course since there is nothing they are going to lose. As Jonathan Kozol mentioned in his book "Illiterate America, 1985” illiterate parents can't help their children through their high school study since they can't read letters from their teachers or write them back. They are also avoiding class discussions because they are afraid of humiliating themselves or their children. Therefore, there should be a special one to one meetings with those parents in order to provide them with the needed information about their children's
