Sam Wilson I am walking on the mountain holding my bow waiting for any animals to appear. Just then, I hear I noise coming from the snow covered rock and slowly walked to it to see what it was. A man appeared and pushed me while another man grabbed my Bow and bag then threw me down the hill. “Ugh, Come on my wallet is in there,” I say as they run off into the distance. I try to stand up but the pain is unbearable so I fall back down. “Well this is great, I have also sustained an injury on my left leg.” I crawl over to the tree that is to the right of me and fall asleep on the spot. I woke up and see a grey animal in the distance. I can’t quite make it out until I realize that it was a Wolf. Could be worse I think to myself as I grab the rock
“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” ― H.P. Lovecraft. Fear drives mankind to hate what he cannot comprehend. With this irrational fear mankind is controlled and set on a path of destruction and chaos. In the autobiography Never Cry Wolf written by Farley Mowat, the main character (Farley Mowat), journeys to the Canadian tundra to study the much-feared wolf. There he discovers the fear brought upon by men, and how it can result horribly for the wolves. The human race was so frightened by the unknown species that they began to blame the wolves for cold slaughters, portrayed them as vicious killers, and because of the fear of the unknown tried to exterminate wolves all together.
Sam R. Watkins was a Confederate soldier from Columbia, Tennessee. At age twenty-one, Watkins joined the First Tennessee Regiment along with one hundred and nineteen other young men and boys. He was one of only seven men to survive every one of its battles. He writes a memoir twenty years after being in the war about his experience as a private. This summer we were assigned to read Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk. Wolf Hollow is a historical fiction novel that takes place in between the shadows of the two world wars. Wolf Hollow has many examples of how a little and quiet girl, Annabelle McBride, stood up for strange and scary Tobias Jordan. Wolf Hollow shows that young and small people make a difference in the world. The book was a stupendous book that shows everyone experiences of standing up for others. The book went well with our last year’s theme of standing up for others.
On November third, nineteen eighty-three at two o’clock in the morning, the Wilsons were awakened by a loud banging noise upstairs, except for Joe, a middle-aged, heavyset man with blonde hair and blue eyes. The noise sounded like someone had just hit a bench with a wooden baseball bat. Maggie, a dark hair, brown-eyed mother of fraternal twins, Reagan and Chandler, and wife to Joe Wilson, rushed to her kid’s room. When she finally made it down the hallway and up the stairs of their large split level house, the twins were already leaping out of their beds heading out the door. Maggie peeked inside the room and saw a young boy who appeared to be floating into the house through the window. The strange looking boy floating in mid-air was bald
Six thousand years ago in Northern Europe a teenager named Torak wakes up with his shoulder throbbing in pain. His father lies next to him bleeding from an open wound. The two have been attacked by an enormous demon bear, which is bound to come back at any moment. As he bleeds out, Torak’s father can only bare to say a few more words. He says that the demon bear will only grow stronger with each kill it makes, and he also tells Torak that he has to go to the Mountain of the World Spirit in order to defeat the bear. With his last few breaths he reveals that a guide will find Torak and lead him to the mountain. There is so much more that Torak wants to know, but it is too late. He hears the bear crashing through the forest and takes off in the opposite direction. After running for miles Torak stumbles upon a small wolf den that had been destroyed by a flash flood. The only wolf who survived the flood is a small wolf pup. The pup gives a small howl and instantly memories of the past begin to flow through Torak. At a very young age Torak’s mother died and his father placed him in a wolf den for three months. The wolves took him in and raised him as one of their own. While in the den Torak formed a strong bond with the wolves and learned how to communicate with them. Back at the den the pup begins to howl, and Torak joins in. The two become great friends and treat each other like brothers. The wolf calls Torak Tall Tailness and Torak calls the pup Wolf. The brothers track, hunt, and play together for many moons. Torak comes to the realization that Wolf is his guide, and together they begin to head north towards the Mountain of the World Spirit.

Every story we read this year was more than interesting. Each one had a different plot, different problems and many different personalities from an enormous group of people. I wonder how long it took for them to realize that what they did was incredible? Every last one of these people had to overcome something in their lives no matter how troublesome it seemed to be.
It was the middle of October, and it was finally time for my long awaited moose hunt. I have waited ever since I was a little girl for this opportunity, and it was finally here. So, my father and I packed up our stuff and left the warmth of Phoenix. We were leaving the "Valley of the Sun" and headed for a place called Wyoming. After two days and fourteen long hours of driving, we made it to our hunting unit.
The involvement of social issues in young adult literature is no red flag to modern day society. New Realism, which first occurred around the 1960’s-1970, lead to the evolution of the appropriateness of social issues in the young adult literature genre. (Robinson) In Francesca Lia Block's Wolf, the author addresses the taboos of sexual violence and abuse in the home, and pairs this with the idea of female self-empowerment, and the age appropriateness of young adult literature for young adults.
In Francesca Lia Block’s Wolf, displays a young girl struggle to over come and admit to escape her abusive home life. Throughout time women have struggled to escape the gruesome home life that they have to go through. Whether that be from the struggles of rape of men throwing them self on to the women, or from an abusive relationship in that man beating them. Although Block story is about the little girl story of overcoming the abusive relationship the little girl believes in so much more than that. Within the passage in the Wolf where the little girl discusses how she is not a victim by nature which represents block’s fear of women being blamed for being in abusive relationship. Throughout all of the passages she displays this courage to face the man and to protect her mother from every thing that she has to go through.
In the blinding haze of the preceding story, I am less able to comprehend why so many mature women have participated in the cougar mythology. After playing cougar for five minutes, I can honestly say I did not experience the wild adrenaline of a predator on the hunt or the euphoria of capturing prey. Instead, I felt like a wild cougar, preyed upon, in a canned hunt.
I reached for the knife, my fingers met the plastic case. “Dang it” I cursed. I must of dropped the knife when I tripped. I was thinking about going to look for it but my hopes were crushed when I heard something coming into the mouth of the cave. I dropped to the ground and started to snake my way behind a boulder. I armed the flare gun and took aim at what was to come around the corner. I heard a rock tumble and roll on the ground. I heard a something being dragged along the dirt. I glared at the figure, the little moonlight giving me some sight. I heard Anmol screaming. HELP, SOMEONE HELP” I watched in terror as a slumped figure rounded the corner, I could not see its face. It was black and deformed in a disgusting way. I saw it take Anmol to a corner, I heard Anmol scream one last time. A shrill, spine tingling scream. I heard something cracking and tearing. Like a green branch snapping over your knee. I was pretty sure that this thing, had just killed Anmol. Just before I was about to run, something was in my peripheral vision. Something that didn’t suit the colour way of the cave. I looked, at first I was surprised that there was a hat in here. I continued to look at it, gazing. Something about it was strange, like I’ve seen it before. A yellow sun hat with a sunflower brooch? Then it came to me, it was the mother brooch the one that went missing. I snapped out of thinking and decided it was my only chance to run. My feet meet the ground, I sprung out and went beyond my top capabilities of sprinting. I knew the thing was after me when I heard It screech. I turned around, aimed the gun behind me and pulled the trigger. For once the cave was lit up, I briefly saw everything. Anmol limp body, a pile of bones and the killer monster that chased me. It screeched at the flares brightness and dove into the shadows. I loaded another flare. I looked up, I was going to shoot the bastard again. I law its shadow and shot, it
Immediately, as my dad and I was walking to the deer stand, my thoughts were that this hunt already felt like any other night hunt I had ever been on. My dad and I together chose which stand we would hunt from the choices on the board. We arrived at the box stand, which was fifteen feet tall, then we climbed in and got comfortable. In the meantime, we were looking around to find any sign of a deer. Meanwhile, as we were sitting quietly in the stand, we suddenly heard something. We could tell that the noise was something running through the trees extremely fast! Suddenly, there she was, a doe, creeping out from the bushes. At that moment, I was only able to see her head. I was getting so nervous, and I didn 't know what to do; however, my dad told me to stay calm and breathe. As she was walking into the field, stopping along the way to eat, I prepared my gun in order to shoot. My dad told me to take the shot whenever I was ready, so within the next couple of seconds I pulled the trigger. BOOM! She’s down! I had shot her; however, I knew I hit her, but she ran
I looked up at the black sky. I hadn't intended to be out this late. The sun had set, and the empty road ahead had no streetlights. I knew I was in for a dark journey home. I had decided that by traveling through the forest would be the quickest way home. Minutes passed, yet it seemed like hours and days. The farther I traveled into the forest, the darker it seemed to get. I was very had to even take a breath due to the stifling air. The only sound familiar to me was the quickening beat of my own heart, which felt as though it was about to come through my chest. I began to whistled to take my mind off the eerie noises I was hearing. In this kind of darkness I was in, it was hard for me to believe that I could be seeing these long finger shaped shadows that stretched out to me. I had this gut feeling as though something was following me, but I assured myself that I was the only one in the forest. At least I had hoped that I was.
