Sublime
Sublime was a band of the 90’s who played their first gig back in
the summer of l988. This performance that started the famous
Peninsula Riot of Long Beach, CA during the 4th of July. This band
was once the average garage band that every kid wants to be in. But
they changed from backyard beer buddies, into a great musicians.
Sublime began recording in early 1992 when they joined up with Long
Beach's local studio Skunk Records where they recorded they
incredible CD, 40oz to Freedom. The CD has sold 30,000 CD’s
without Distributor. The CD’s were sold out of the back of trunks in
the band member’s cars. The bands new release, Robbin The Hood,
sold over 2,000 CD’s in less than two weeks. This CD was a great mix
of new and different sounds. Both records were made for under
10,000 dollars. Sublime is not just a band, but a perfect example of
any beach dumb in CA.
Sublime is more of a mood and an attitude that applies to every
skater, surfer and snowboarder out there. The instant hit single, Date
Rape , blew up huge real quick. But the band once described
themselves, "we're not a one-off, blow-up all at once kind of band.
Our goal is to create a long career of catalog pieces and a loyal and
constantly growing fan base.” The tragic death of the singer,
songwriter and guitarist, Brad Nowell goal got cut short.. But not
before sublime which also included Bud Gaugh the drummer and
Eric Wilson the bassist, recorded a a great varie...

In a second attempt to further expand the company horizons, an e-commerce site was created. This site is interesting because its main focus is not the clothing but the “lifestyle”. Upon entering the Abercrombie and Fitch website, the first thing the consumer sees is a half naked man, sprawled on the ground, eating a plate full of fruit. It is just to be inferred that he is wearing Abercrombie and Fitch clothing. This just shows how the image of Abercrombie is much more important than the clothing itself. The site itself is bright and summery. The attitude is carefree, active and sexy. Maneuvering ones way around this website is relatively easy. The links include Lifestyle, A&F TV, A&F Quarterly (the magazine/catalogue), Company, and Shop A&F. Other links include, music, movies, downloads, postcards, photos, and “hot” sites. The website seems to be almost completely focused on drawing the consumer into the lifestyle of Abercrombie and Fitch. The information the company gives is very limited. For example, throughout the entire website, there is not one mention of a company mission statement, yet there is a plethora of information about the company’s financial standings.
... fashion industry. I believe through all of their marketing tactics and great leadership they will continue to thrive. Although I am not a customer of the brand, I have found great interest in completing this product to explore and expand and broaden my fashion in the brand. The company has had consistent sales increase and if it continues to utilize its business plans wisely, I believe it will continue to increase.
The music video that I chose to write my paper on, is called "Date Rape" and it is performed by Sublime. I've seen the video plenty of times and I taped it back in 1993 when I first got their album 40 oz. to Freedom. The song is about a man that picks up a lady in a bar and rapes her. He winds up going to court and the judge finds that, "he was full of shit, and he gave him twenty-five years. " Then it talks about the man going to jail and even getting "butt raped by a large inmate.

What can be said about the sublime? Class discussion led to the definition of sublime as the element found in travel literature that is unexplainable. It is that part of travel literature where the writer is in awe of his or her surroundings, where nature can be dangerous or where nature reminds a human being of their mortality. The term "sublime" has been applied to travel texts studied in class and it is hard not to compare the sublime from texts earlier in the term to the texts in the later part of the term. Two texts that can be compared in terms of the sublime are A Tour in Switzerland by Helen Williams and History of a Six Weeks' Tour by Mary Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley. There are similarities and differences found in both texts concerning individual perspectives of travel and the sublime. The main focus of this commentary will be comparing and contrasting the perspectives of Williams and Shelley within their respective texts, the language of the sublime and the descriptions of the sublime.

In his book On the Sublime, Longinus rhetorically identifies five principal elements to the art of mastering sublimity, through the use of written texts. Longinus defines sublimity as, “a kind of eminence or excellence of discourse […] sublimity on the other hand, produced at the right moment, tears everything up like a whirlwind and exhibits the orator’s power at a single blow” (Longinus 347). However, there is great jeopardy when writers seek to produce subliminal messages. Longinus describes the difference between messages being falsely and truly sublime. He characterizes false sublimity as “puerile” and bombastic. True sublimity will touch the audience’s heart; it goes beyond words, allowing emotion to run through. Furthermore, Longinus outlines the five rhetorical principles in order to achieve sublimity. (1) Ethos: Greatness of Thoughts, (2) Pathos: Emotion, (3) Pathos: Figures of Speech Logos, (4) Logos: Nobile Diction, and (5) Logos: Arrangement. Blacks for year’s fought hard to receive equal rights to those whites had. The late 1950s, early 1960s was a turning point for African-Americans with the establishment of the Civil Rights Era. The Civil Rights Era represented a social movement for blacks in hopes of ending racial segregation and discrimination, especially in the Jim Crow Deep South. At the forefront of this movement was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who sought equality for the poor, victims of injustice, and African-Americans, by advocating peaceful protests. On August 28, 1963, King delivered one of the most memorable speeches of all time during the March on Washington. The mastering of Longinus’s five principals of the sublime is exemplified in King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Moreover, the last couple of minutes o...

... have to be combined to create one big idea and this is where group dynamics comes into play. Employees have to be interpersonal with each other and trust one another's opinions in order to move together as a team when promoting the retailer's brand as one whole. It goes without saying that as technology develops, the retail industry will innovate and emerge with new sectors, brands, products, and services to provide for the growing needs of consumers and the emerging economy. There will always be an increase in emerging themes as the priorities of consumers change from one generation to another. Lastly, the most important thing that I would take with me to work experience is the motivation and encouraging; I will constantly encourage any of my team members when they require it and give them good constructive feedback that they can later implement into their work.
