Recommended: FDRs response to the Great Depression

Throughout our lives, one can safely assume that at some point we become faced with circumstances in which we feel powerless over how the situation plays out. At times, these conditions can undoubtedly impair an individual from attempting to take action in dealing with their shortcomings. And instead of trying to change the way we think about and approach our circumstances, we typically tend to avoid our problems through different means of conformity. Roosevelt’s statement is very powerful for several reasons. It represents Roosevelt’s approach at fixing the economic situation in the United States during his presidency, encouraging the people to get involved in the reformation of the country, as well as serving a universal purpose that anyone, including myself, can use to help benefit the quality of our lives. As Roosevelt used this idea to help bring the United States back to a prosperous state of being, I plan to do the same for both myself and others. When considering the circumstances the United States faced during Roosevelt’s presidency, this quote accurately depicts the ideas he was trying to instill to the public. During this time, the United States was faced with drastic economic downfall. With millions of individuals without jobs, along with the terrible living conditions many had to deal with, people’s morale was quickly fading. President Roosevelt did everything in his power to make sure the people kept their spirits and hope alive. I believe that he was trying to help everyone see that instead of passively sitting and waiting for things to get better, they should attempts to actively see to it that things would change in the ways they wanted it to. He was simply trying to help the people see that they have ... ... middle of paper ... ...nce on. People need to genuinely know that they have the potential to see the world however they desire to. An altering of one’s perception is crucial in making this idea into a reality, which is one of the reasons why I plan on extensively studying about the different concepts of perception. However one decides to look at Roosevelt’s statement, it all reverts back to the universal theme of making life whatever and however you want it to be. As Roosevelt used his position to incorporate these ideas and helped promote change, I plan on doing the same for myself and others through my work with psychology. Simply put, life is too short to have to convert someone you truly aren’t. The least we can do is enjoy the person we are and try to change the world in a way that we see fit. Everyone’s opinion matters, as it is the individual that makes up our society.
