The Roman Empire started as a small settlement, starting in the 8th century BC. Legend has it that it was founded by the great founders Romulus and Remus. These were the sons of Mars, and were separated from their parents as children. When they grew up, they went on to find Rome, and Romulus became king after killing Remus. After him, Latin and Etruscan kings followed his succession (non- hereditary).
Rome’s Monarchy ended in about 509 BC because the new heir was very cruel, so the Romans created a new type of governing system, the res publica (Republic), or “property of the people”. The Romans focused first to create a good and controlled government, which would help them control Rome better in the long run. The government was divided into three branches: Consuls, who were the nobles, and had to be voted to get in. Another Branch was the Senate, the advisory council. The last but not the least respected branch was the Assembly, which was a group of Roman citizens who voted their leaders, had the final say on peace or war, and were a kind of …show more content…

The Romans first started by conquering its neighbors, the Etruscans. Some treaties were made, but the Etruscans kept pushing, so Rome decided to take over. But, later the Gauls sacked them in the 4th century, but the Gauls left only after Rome gave them huge amounts of gold. This defeat let the Romans to improve their military. After this, Rome conquered southern Italy, having the entire Italian Empire. Rome now set their eyes on Carthage, and after years, Rome had conquered the Carthage Empire, the second most powerful empire in the Mediterranean. This allowed Rome to access more trade routes, and more trade, which was good in the economic standpoint. Through the sea, Rome had Carthage, and on land, Rome built vast roads, which allowed their soldiers to march on and trade to happen across the
