The Roman Empire, the most famous empire in all of history, owed all of its success to its government, military, and valued morals. The Roman government was unified and when it was challenged always rose to the occasion for Rome and her people. Their military was an unstoppable powerhouse never before seen. This is all due to the discipline, organization, tactics, and weapons. Although many may not think that the Romans had many morals, their moral life is one of the biggest reason they did all that they did. Striving to do good and help out their fellow man is what made Rome the empire that it became. Rome’s government was unfamiliar at that time in history, having a unified empire through one government. They used aristocratic, democratic, and monarchical elements to make their Empire thrive. Rome’s main idea for the military is that if you keep the troops together and in order the entire army fights more proficiently. There was a defined chain of command and all divisions of men were separated into what they called legions. Rome had around 30 legions consisting of about 5,500 men at one time. All legions were divided into 10 cohorts with 9 of these having 480 men. From cohorts, they were divided into six centuries, with around 80 men in each with a centurion in command of them. The cavalry consisted of 120 men that were mainly used as scouts. They discipline and organization always came out when they would set up a camp. Tents were set up in certain patterns with a deep ditch and wall surrounding them. The Roman soldiers would rather go without sleep for days to set up a camp for the sake of uniformity and regularity than to set a camp up without any
