Being formed in 1962, The Rolling Stones is one of the most recognizable bands in history. Consisting of four members: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Brian Jones. Mick Jagger is the band’s frontman with the vocals. Keith Richards with the guitar. Charlie Watts is the drummist for the band. Brian Jones, who also played the guitar for the band. They are known as the “longest performing rock band of all time” (history1900s.about.com). They were one of the bands who came from the British invasion along with the Beatles.
In the early 1950s, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger “met as children at Dartford Maypole County Primary School” (allmusic.com). They remained friends until their friendship was broken when “both families moved in the mid-Fifties” (rockhall.com). Years afterward, “their friendship was rekindled after a chance encounter at a train station in 1960” (history1900s.about.com). Jagger was studying accounting in London School of Economics while Richards was studying graphic art in Sidcup Art College. They were both on their way to school when they met at the train station. Their conversation was about music since Jagger had Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records under his arm at the moment of the encounter. They quickly found out that Richards had been playing guitar since the age of 14 and Jagger had been singing in underground clubs in London. They became friends again which would create a bond that would hold the Rolling Stones together for many years.
Jagger and Richards began playing in a band named Blues Incorporated along with Brian Jones. Brian lived a crazy life, starting when he ran away to Scandinavia at age 16. He had dropped out from school to play the saxophone and the clarinet. When he became fa...

The band celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2012. They released a greatest hits album which featured two new tracks: “Doom and Gloom” and “One More Shot”. The band members of the Stones are now in their sixties and seventies. Despite their age, they still tour, record, and perform. In November 2012, they played a show at London’s The 02 Arena. In December of 2012 they played at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the Prudential Center in New Jersey. They also joined the Who, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, and Bruce Springsteen for the Sandy Relief concert at Madison Square Garden. They hold the “title as the World’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band” (rockhall.com). No one has been able to take that title away from them. Their band’s tongue and lips logo is one of the most recognizable band icons in the world.
