The risk of identity theft in ecommerce for consumers and online merchants is a growing serious crime that is on the rise. I am sure that we have all got an email from someone we know saying they were stranded in another country and they had got robbed, requesting for you to send money. Or maybe you gotten an email from your bank or one of your online account requesting that you update your info by reply to email. Or maybe you gotten an email saying that you have won some money but to get it they need your bank account and routine number. I recently had my own first-hand experience with identity theft this pass holiday season. On Thanksgiving night, me and my wife car was stolen from in my mother in-law driveway. My wife call the banks right away and cancelled all of her credit and debit cards. I had an apple mac book pro laptop and I immediately logged on my phone app find my iPhone. This app listed all of my apple products but the laptop was offline so I was not able to track it. I click on the option that would notify me the moment that someone would go online with my laptop. I also click the option that would wipe out the hard drive as well. At this point we assume that the damage would be minor. Our fear at this point was the use of my wife identity and our passports. We assumed everything else other than the car itself would be fine. Well later that week I got an email in the middle of the night saying that someone logged their phone into my email account. The next day I realize that they had hacked into my PayPal account. They order some BestBuy gift cards in my name but shipped it to their address. I received an email receipt about the purchase. At that moment, it had dawn on me that they hacked into my laptop computer and begin going thru all of my online accounts. I became terrified and
