Adichie goal throughout this passage was to inform people that they should not listen to one side of a story and run with it. That a person should not judge someone else but instead learn who a person is for themselves because there is never one story to every person. Furthermore, Adichie educated her audience by letting them know that everyone in their life judges someone but it is up to a person to change that. She wanted her audience to understand how dangerous a single story is; it can destroy a person and their intelligence but it can also change the worldview of countries. Her speech taught people that the world fails to give two sides of a story resulting in people making up stories about others and questioning who a person is.
While some people may believe that Medea crossed the line when she had killed four people, including her children, in order to get revenge, others view this killing as justifiable because it was the only way to truly hurt Jason. Yet, because of how emotional Medea was and where she came from, readers believe her to be demented and barbaric. It does this by using manipulative, “scientific-sounding" terminology, comparisons, fabrication, and hyperboles.
The chapter, Church, has the troop hold up in a church for a few days. In the church, the monks take an immediately likely to the troop help with food and weapon cleaning. A few of the soldiers discuss what they wanted to do before the war. The troops learn more about each other and insight into what faith can be to them.
In the book Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer wrote about Christopher McCandless, a nature lover in search for independence, in a mysterious and hopeful experience. Even though Krakauer tells us McCandless was going to die from the beginning, he still gave him a chance for survival. As a reader I wanted McCandless to survive. In Into the Wild, Krakauer gave McCandless a unique perspective. He was a smart and unique person that wanted to be completely free from society. Krakauer included comments from people that said McCandless was crazy, and his death was his own mistake. However, Krakauer is able to make him seem like a brave person. The connections between other hikers and himself helped in the explanation of McCandless’s rational actions. Krakauer is able to make McCandless look like a normal person, but unique from this generation. In order for Krakauer to make Christopher McCandless not look like a crazy person, but a special person, I will analyze the persuading style that Krakauer used in Into the Wild that made us believe McCandless was a regular young adult.
Only the poor, the beggar, and the under-classes are prefer to walk, in the opinion of some Americans. However, one American, the author Antonia Malchik, writes “The End of Walking,” and she argues that in Orwellian fashion, American people not only walk less, but are afforded less opportunity to walk. Undermined pedestrian transit systems encroaches on people’s liberty, instinct, and health. In Malchik’s article, most of the rhetorical strategies are very effective. She strengthens the credibility successfully by citing experts’ words and narrating her own experiences. With facts and statistics, she interprets the logical reasons of walking.
The fight for racial equality is one of the most prominent issues Americans have faced throughout history and even today; as the idea that enslaving individuals is unethical emerged, many great and innovative authors began writing about the issues that enslaved people had to face. Olaudah Equiano was no exception. In his work The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, he attempts to persuade his readers that the American way of slavery is brutal, inhumane, and unscrupulous. Equiano manages to do this by minimizing the apparent differences between himself and his primarily white audience, mentioning the cruelties that he and many other slaves had to face, and the advantages of treating your slaves correctly.

I chose this word because the tone of the first chapter seems rather dark. We hear stories of the hopes with which the Puritans arrived in the new world; however, these hopes quickly turned dark because the Purtains found that the first buildings they needed to create were a prison, which alludes to the sins they committed; and a cemetery, which contradicts the new life they hoped to create for themselves.
In the early stages of American history, life was not all it seemed cut out to be; and under any circumstances, integrating into a new lifestyle is difficult. She repeatedly mentions “the single story”, particularly after each story she tells. For example, after discussing a time of financial hardship in her childhood, Adichie emphasizes that “to insist only on those negative stories is to flatten her experience and to overlook the other stories that formed her.” She goes on to reiterate that “the single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete, and they make one story become the only story”(Ted, 12:48-13:09). This restatement of the same phrase and idea of the single story reminds us of and emphasises the main point of her speech, that single thoughts, ideas, or opinions of an individual create an incomplete generalization of said person without regard to who they actually are and what they have
Along with rhetorical appeals, Wiesel also uses many rhetorical devices such as parallelism and anaphora. Wiesel depicts parallelism when he says, “to fight fascism, to fight dictatorship, to fight Hitler” (Wiesel lines 103-104). The parallelism and anaphora, in the quote, provide emphasis on the discrimination and abuse that has taken place around the world. Repeating the same initial phrase shows the significance of the words Wiesel is speaking. Wiesel mentions the victims of this extreme tragedy when he states,” for the children in the world, for the homeless for the victims of injustice, the victims of destiny and society.” (Wiesel lines 17-19). This use of anaphora and parallelism emphasize the amount of people the Holocaust has affected and impacted. The parallelism being used adds value to his opinions and balances the list of people Wiesel is making in his speech.
In the past, the majority of the African Americans were faced with segregation, poverty, violence, and inequalities. In spite of the civil rights movement most were killed and were lynched. Today, African Americans are more likely suffering from issues, including unemployment, lack of education, poverty, drug abuse, political rights, and injustice. In this rhetorical analysis, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Victor M. Rios explained that people of color still face discrimination, racial injustice, and brutality. Also, these two authors attracted their audiences through persuasive expression, tone, and rational methods to discuss discrimination, racial issues, fears, injustice, and cruelty that govern the society as well. These two authors might be trying to make the large society aware of issues that negatively affect the young males of color and obtain their audience 's advocacy. In The Tale of Sir Thopas, Geoffrey Chaucer personifies and idealizes the wonder of Nature, allowing her innate sense of mystery to shine through, much like the sun seeping into a meadow discovered. Chaucer’s therapeutic landscape allows the young hero to find an inner sense of well being, manifesting clearly his desires for the first time. Racism and sexism thinly veiled by xenophobia in America, Adichie portrays these two factors in society. Generally by putting her main character through a consistent stream of seemingly routine events involving one or even both of the factors. Often times she deals with micro-aggressions about her hair, which does not fit the American standard of beauty and elegance. Often showing how people are quick to assume that she is unintelligent simply by her skin and her accent. Often times Adichie portrays Ifemelu as the object of criticism and envy. Ifemelu is merely struggling to survive in a new environment. An environment that by all accounts constantly attempts to tear her down, her psyche and emotional stability constantly suffering damage.
