"Where are you going, where have you been?" written by an American writer, "Joyce Carol Oates". The story is written in the third person limited omniscient point of view, the tone switches from the ignorance to hopelessness in the end. The main character of the story is Connie, a self-centred, fifteen years old beautiful girl: Like every typical teenager, she is rebellious and totally into herself, who daydream about boys and romance. Throughout the story, Oates discloses many major factors of worry; Such as the lack of conversation between a child and a parent, Our safety, the eagerness of growing up, and how we tend to trust anyone with same preferences as ours. In life, many times we take our family, our lifestyle, and other very important things for granted without considering about the value of them and the twist which life will bring; Similarly, Connie was also clueless about her destiny. Oates writes " Everything about her had two sides to it" (Oates 2), Certainly, she has a multi-personality, she behaves differently with her family and try to act like a mature around her friends to be more attractive. Which clearly point out the eagerness of growing up fast. Music is mentioned in the whole story; Connie is a very big fan of music and all she does is listen to music and daydream about love, and boys; She has learned from music about love, about how a man should treat her girl, and even to dream. Oates writes, "…and listened for an hour and a half to a program called XYZ Sunday Jamboree, record after record of hard, fast, shrinking songs she sang along with…" (Oates 5), express Connie’s strong connection with Music, which is a fantasy world to Connie, allowing her to escape from the real world and all that negativity around
