The Rookie is a movie that I just recently watched, and would love to give my opinion of what I thought about how this movie came together. The Rookie is a baseball movie and like many baseball movies it starts out with something that goes wrong and then in the end everything turns out being solved. This movie is a great movie to watch no matter where you are or what time it is. The Rookie is a movie about a man who grows up with the passion of becoming a Major League Baseball player and then gets stuck living his life as a high school science teacher and a baseball coach. While he was in the minor leagues he ended up having a shoulder injury that ended his baseball career. The closest he could get to his passion after that was by being a …show more content…
His bet was that if they won districts he would try to give his dream one last chance. Jim Morris was played by the actor Dennis Quaid. Dennis is an American actor known for his wide variety of dramatic and comedic roles. His role as Jim Morris was a very good role for him. He made the movie humorous and dramatic at the perfect times which people should hope for that from him since that is what he is most known for. His wife in the movie was played by actress Rachel Griffiths. Ms. Griffiths is an australian actress and director. She began her career in 1992 and is still loving every second of it. She was a good actor for this part because she was able to get into her role and when she got into it, it made it seem like her and Mr. Morris were actually married. She makes her relationships with the other characters convincible. Mr and Mrs. Morris’ son Hunter is played by Angus T. Jones. Angus is an American actor and community worker. Jones is known mostly for playing Jake Harper in CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. I couldn't have picked a better actor to play this part. Jake Harper is a really cute kid and he is …show more content…
I liked the fact that this man didn’t let his injury get the best of him and did the next thing he could to still be close to his passion. However I didn’t quite like the fact that after he went back and try out it only showed one game that he played in the major leagues. I think that the movie would have been even more enjoyable and showed more emotion from the characters if Jim would have been gone longer and would have showed more of him living his dream out. I also liked the fact that he went from being someone to going to just a high school coach and teacher to going back to being something and making farther the second time then the first time he
Hutch, the main character of The Big Field, has played baseball all of his life. He has always played shortstop, the same position that his father dreamed of playing as a professional. “Hutch, had always thought of himself as the captain of any infield he’d ever been a part of” (Lupica 1). Hutch finds himself being demoted to second base because there is another player, Darryl, on his new team that is expected to go pro and also plays shortstop. Hutch struggles because he does not want to play second base and his father does not support him because he does not want baseball to break Hutch’s dreams like it did his own. Hutch is betrayed by his father and Darryl when he finds them practicing together. Hutch has to learn to adjust and eventually becomes friends with Darryl, the up and coming shortstop. He understands that if he wants to win, then he needs to work together with Darryl. His father also comes around and finally gives Hutch his approval. Students should read this book in a high school English classroom because it demonstrates how relationships can be difficult, but teamwork can help to solve many issues.
“If you build it, he will come” (Kinsella 1). These words of an announcer jump start a struggle for Ray Kinsella to ease the tragic life of Shoeless Joe Jackson. Ray hears a voice of an announcer which leads him to build a baseball field that brings Shoeless Joe Jackson onto the field. However, this field puts his family on the verge of bankruptcy which is just one of the struggles Ray Kinsella is presented in his life. Shoeless Joe Jackson is no stranger to having no money, as he was only making a measly $1.25 as a kid struggling to support his family. He never attended school and was illiterate throughout his entire life. The struggle is completely the same with Ray Kinsella growing up, as he is forced into baseball, which ultimately makes him run away from home. Ray’s hate is Joes love. Joe loves baseball and makes it to the major leagues, but it doesn’t last. Joe’s career is cut short due to the fact he is accused of throwing the World Series, and banned from baseball forever. Rays’s father would have loved it if his son made it to the major leagues because he thought Ray had the potential and talent. However, his only dream was simple, he wanted to play a game of catch with his son, unfortunately, he passed away and he never got to see his son after he ran away. Shoeless Joe Jackson’s death wasn’t any better, as he died guilty of throwing the World Series which was the biggest sports tragedy to date. Tragedies are not uncommon phenomena, Ray Kinsella and Shoeless Joe Jackson have the unfortunate luck to go through a struggle fulfilled and uphill battle in what is suppose to be a wonderful thing, life.
Alfred Brooks, struggles to find who he is and what he likes to do. He suddenly finds himself in the gym to learn how to box and find something different in himself.
Dale Earnhardt won many Winston Cup titles throughout his career, and he was also known as the” imitator” because he would nudge cars around the track to try and take the lead. Earnhardt said “I don't want to argue with my wife about her car - or my driving”. Earnhardt took after his father Ralph Earnhardt. Earnhardt wasn’t like most race car drivers. He would interact with his fans and he didn’t like most of the rules for racing. Dale Earnhardt has changed NASCAR in many ways. After his death it made NASCAR step up there pace on making racing a safer sport.
the dream, in the end, he is left dead and without the hope of winning
I think the reason I like it so much is because Will Ferrell is in it and he is a funny dude. The main characters in Semi- Pro are Jacki Moon, Monix, Clearance, and Lynn. Some minor characters are Lou Redwood, Bobby Dee, and Bee Bee Ellis. The main setting of the movie is in the Flint Michigan Tropics gymnasium. That is where they play all their basketball games. Jackie Moon is the owner, the coach and a player For the Tropics. He and his buddies try to get his team into the NBA by playing NBA teams and beating them. They can’t get in the NBA because they barely have any fans. I also like the movie Shrek
... one last attempt to help them, turning his dream into a real life nightmare.
"He was like a hunter stalking a bear, a whale, or maybe the sight of a single fleeing star the way he went after that ball (Malamud, 162)." Since he is young, Roy Hobbs has great ability and amazing talent in baseball. However, just like a tragic hero in Greek myth, those ones who fight for their honor, but fail because of their hubris or the desire of being such immortal and an aspects of not accepting the truth and reality, Roy Hobbs' hubris, ambition and a desire for fame and his fortune really tell that he is a tragic hero.
The Sandlot is a classic sports film that shows how the role of friendship plays in children’s development. The story takes place in a small suburb outside of Los Angeles in the summer of 1962. The main character “Smalls”, just moved to the town with his mom and step dad. He doesn’t really know how to make friends but started watching a group of boys that walked to the ‘sandlot’. Smalls has always stuck to science projects, so baseball is a new subject to him. The step dad has a love of baseball so when Smalls goes into his office he has trophies and a baseball signed by Babe Ruth. Smalls wants to be able to connect with his step dad, so he tries to learn how to play baseball with the guys.
The movie we watched showed all the emotions that can come from sport. Whether it would be a gratifying moment with a win for your team, or a devastating moment with a loss. That is what makes you grow when you are a younger kid growing up. A kid who can handle a loss in his life with the same dignity as a win will become a better person in the future.
The movie being analyzed is the Sandlot. The relationship between the two main characters is a friendship, which begins with one boy who is desperate for friends and another who is searching for The Sandlot’s last teammate. The friendship between Benny and Small’s is an accurate depiction of the development of friendship in real life. In the movie, Scotty Smalls (Smalls) moves to a new neighborhood. One of his new neighbors happens to be the best baseball player in the neighborhood, Benny, who eventually teaches Smalls how to catch and throw so that the team has a ninth player. What begins as filling a baseball position eventually leads to a strong bond between the two main characters. Throughout the summer, the team plays baseball, goes swimming, plays baseball, goes to the fair, and plays baseball. A dog known as “The Beast” lives behind the fence of The Sandlot. The Beast is said to have eaten every baseball and person that has ever been on the other side of that fence, so when the boys hit Small’s stepfather’s signed baseball over the fence, they have to come together to retrieve the baseball. In the movie The Sandlot, directed by David M. Evans, the development of the friendship between Scott Smalls and Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez is conveyed through their communication. The Sandlot shows the progression of a friendship and the importance of communication to help a friendship flourish.
The main character Dexter Green is a young man at the start he was just a caddy for a golf course and was only there for pocket money since his dad had
Although I enjoyed the main portion of the movie, there were some obvious likes and dislikes in my opinion. I believe that I learned from this movie and it helped me understand more of what the people of that time were feeling.
An American drama film directed and produced by Clint Eastwood which has gained recognition worldwide particularly because of Clintwood’s appealing directing style. It was recognized by the American Drama Institute as one of the “Ten Best Films of 2008”(Gran Torino, 2013) and debutedthe writer, Nick Schenk. Clint Eastwood demonstrates, through Mr. Walt, that if your past negatively affects your life and the way you see things, then its best to let go of it and start a new beginning. An intense film told with great humor, Gran Torino is a cinematic masterpiece. This film succeeds in its development in portraying the negative aspects involving multicultural communications and the bond formed by people from two extremely different generations.
The main characters in the movie are Coach Ken Carter, a graduate to the team he is coaching in the movie the Richmond Oilers. He is a very determined, strict and persistent coach that only has the player’s best interest at heart, not only on the court, but in the classroom as well. Kenyon Stone, a senior on the team, is also one of the best players. However, Kenyon is faced with a life altering decision when his girlfriend, Kyra gets pregnant. Kenyon is forced to make a difficult decision about the pregnancy as he and Kyra prepare to go off to college. Damien Carter, the son of Coach Ken Carter, originally played for the power house school of the area, Saint Francis. He made a personal decision to transfer to Richmond so he could play for his father as he had done earlier in his entire life. Since Damien was a freshman, he had to prove himself to the team. Damien proved himself as a valuable team member and made major contributions to the team’s successful season.
