Why is one of the biggest controversies in America abortion? There’s a lot of history behind why abortion is so controversial, mainly dealing with politics. Between Republicans views on it and why they believe it is immoral to the Democratic views and why they believe it comes down to what the woman wants. The main reason abortion is so controversial is because of the political views and how completely opposed they are for various historical reasons.
America has a deep past on abortion, actually the entire world does, in fact “The earliest known description of abortion comes from Ebers Papyrus” (Head). That was along times ago back in the BCE era. They would use herbal remedies to get rid of the fetuses and if not herbal then they would turn …show more content…

While their views are correct, they are also very incorrect. They say it causes harm when in fact it does not. Fetuses are not neurologically active until twenty weeks”…The killing of a neurologically inactive fetus does no greater a harm than killing a mouse, and in fact decidedly less- a mouse is neurologically active, and though it lacks a complex cerebral cortex, it has a brain of suitable complexity to perceive pain, a fetus however cannot perceive pain” (Carrier). Therefore, The Republican Parties argument of the fact that it is immoral due to the fact they feel pain is incorrect. Nevertheless, they do have many other points on why abortion cannot be seen as a moral thing. They believe that every pregnant woman should be supported ‘by providing affordable health care and ensuring the availability of and access to programs that help the women during pregnancy and after the birth of a child including caring adopting programs’” (Republican Views). Clearly, Democrats want more than just woman choosing the option of abortion and many want the women to go through with their pregnancy unless of course, they do not want to or they cannot due to medical circumstances. In schools the Democrats want to fund the idea of protection instead of abstinence, they want people to have safe options of getting protection and using it (Republican Views). They believe abortion is moral due to the fact of if it is not their body than they are okay with whatever happens. Abortion actually is a mostly positive thing when it comes to the general world; it decreases population growth and makes sure there is no overpopulation (Carrier). They see abortion as okay because it is “...an elective termination of pregnancy before the 20th week- and does not violate anyone’s rights and does no substantial” (Carrier). Meaning that it does not violate
