Peace can only be attained through tolerance and respect for the opposing idea or practice. The ban proposal and decision to ban religious practices through the province of Quebec is not a peaceful path. The banning of a certain group's religious practices causes outrage and bitterness towards those who have proposed a cruel law. The Catholic Church condemns the banning of religious practices because it is a violation of human rights, a setback to religious dialogue and destructive to religious pluralism. Canada is known for its Charter of Human Rights. One of the rights of individuals who live in Canada is to be able to practice their religion freely. According to Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, "Everyone has the freedom of conscience and religion." Only recently, religious leader have understood that to prevent another massacre such as the World Wars, one must be in dialogue with those who oppose their beliefs or think differently. The Catholic Church would recommend interreligious dialogue, because it is following the example of Christ. Jesus Christ was known for his acceptance and respect towards those of a different religion and the followers of Christ or those who seek to be good need to imitate his behaviour. If religious practices are being banned, then people begin to think that these religions are wrong in the way they teach and this causes fear for those who think of a religious group as an extremist. When fear replaces the understanding in people's hearts, misunderstandings can form much easier and then lead nations into dispute with one another.
