What is Christianity? To some it is just another religion, to others it is a way of life. Much of society has a misconstrued view of Christians. They don’t always understand why someone wants to live like that or why someone would want to follow a bunch of ancient scribblings. I don’t blame them. The problem with Christianity is often that it is too religious. In Orange is the New Black, Piper Kerman mentions how many inmates were religious, but few had faith that she felt was genuine. This is commonly seen by outsiders and the idea of religion often turns them away from Christianity. I used to be very religious but now hate religion because of this. I am a Christian. I always have been. I was raised in a Christian family so going to church on Sunday was just something we always did. As I grew up I began to understand that there is much more to being a Christian than showing up on Sunday morning. I began to see what being a Christian really was about when I reached my high school years. If religion was great, why has it started so many wars? Why does it build huge churches, but fails to feed the poor? It can’t fix problems, so it tries to mask them. It is like spraying perfume on a casket. It never gets to the core. Religious people look nice and neat on the outside” (Jeff Bethke). I hate religion because it opposes Jesus. Jesus came to save the people like me. I used to be religious. I always went to church on Sunday, but on Friday or Saturday, I would forget Jesus. I cared more about living reckless, than living my life as a Christian. I acted no different than any non-believers. I attempted to cover up my mistakes by acting like a regular church kid on Sundays. I now understand that the church’s purpose is to help the sinners, not shun them. There is nothing for me to hide
