Interpersonal Relationship Reflective Paper Interpersonal communication is the most important kind of communication. It happens when two persons are in a close proximity to each other, where they are able to provide immediate feedback to one another. It is the way we express our thoughts, ideas and feelings to the persons around us. This type of communication is basically something we have to do well as it affects any aspects of our lives. Interpersonal communication is an everyday learned skill that we can improve with practice and knowledge, which allows us to express our thoughts and feelings or any information quickly. Acknowledging is the first step towards an effective communication. This is how we will start the process of communication, we need to let the listener know they are conversing with know that they are taking an interest in what the other person has to say. This is a very important step in the improvement of a relationship, since this step alone may have a big difference in the level of effective communication. We always have to acknowledge that the person we are speaking with may have needs we will also need. The second step to an effective relationship is to send a message clearly. The way the sender would send this message is what matters it being in a polite manner. For example when I was younger I was shown how to say please and thank you and as I been growing older these words have not lessened. Another way to communicate effectively is when sending the message we should try to ask the question in a way that requires an answer. If we are able to make the listener respond they are more likely to do what the sender has asked them to do. Since the moment we wake up in the morning to last when we fall asleep at night. We use interpersonal communication every time we talk to someone in our personal lives. The communication we have with family and friends is most of the communicating we will do in our lives. While it is something we deal with the most, it is also where interpersonal communication is the hardest. (Peter A Kay 2010) Interpersonal communication can be used in our workplace, in our personal life and has even been found in the most recently developed type of communication through the internet. When dealing with careers it is very important, if the person is unable to communicate well with their coworkers and supervisors they will more likely not be able to succeed in their field as well as a person who has great interpersonal communication skills. Even though that person makes extraordinary presentations and is trying to convince their supervisors of their ideas, it may fail since they are not able to communicate effectively and convince their listeners that they have the confidence in their own ideas. Having the ability to effectively use interpersonal communication skills will be very helpful when trying to hold on to a job or trying to secure a job.
