The base of my understanding of music begins with the fact that I had grown up within Los Angeles, specifically in mid-city. I did not really have any restrictions to music and the only recollection which music was standard is when I was much smaller and my father would hum a Vietnamese lullaby to get me to sleep. There was a period in which I rejected the music which was prevalent in popular culture, yet I now accept it if not listen to some of it. If I were to create a timeline of the taste in music for which I had would be a long one, but I could mainly simplify it to major stages. I think the first music for which I was most interested in was the music my father had introduced to me which had some range. Songs from which I recall and …show more content…
However, there are those which I avoid as with how some songs are made to be annoying or something such as gospel though if it sounds good or bad, unless truly bad, than I do not really judge. In my own experience, music is really dependent on the beholder. I see how music plays a large role in society and culture as well. I would be unable or rather do not feel like writing all the claims that may come to mind when it comes to these thoughts. Music has greatly affected everyone in the world, but from what I see in American culture is that aside from entertainment, music has been used to spread ideas and messages to the masses as with anti-war rhetoric or to go green which continues to this day but most well-known from the 1960s. Music is also reflective of our culture in how music is pirated a lot, seems to be getting shorter as our lives move faster, and becomes a tool of capitalization though not for all. There is so much to say about music from its entertainment value, as a tool, as a product, but this is only reflective of what is currently coming to my mind and so may be missing much or contradicts what I may think
Music can be reflection of our life experience. Each genre of music invokes different emotions and reactions in it's listeners. Rap has become a very popular genre in today's society. Is today “Gangster rap” and rappers exploiting society, introducing drugs and instigating violence? In the mid-1980s Gangster rap came to be portray images of violence, guns, gangs, drugs, and sexism. By the 1990s rap music became a major part of the industry and topped the charts. As people begin to operate different things; different music was engendered and that contributed to the variety of music that we have today. This is one of the many things that makes America different but is astringently under looked by everyone. There are many types of different raps
Music is one of the most popular ways of expression and has been for generations. It makes us want to dance, inspires, soothes, relaxes, and sometimes tells us a story. Music is something the whole world shares and has brought together different kinds of people. However, there has been a question on whether some music has affected society negatively and crossed the line with some of its lyrics, content, and the persona of the artists. Certain music has been boycotted and even banned in the U.S. Pro-censorship supporters say that music is something that can deeply affect our society especially children who should not have to be subjected to things like violence, sex, drugs, or hate. However, being that music is a form of expression, censoring it would just be violating everyone's right to freedom of speech and expression.
In conclusion, many people have different opinions on the large variety of music. There are many to choose from. Most people would greatly prefer some music over others. I am not one to judge for this subject. I like many types. I think music has the same effect on everybody. No matter the
Music cannot be to blame for the problems that are happening to young children in society. Music is a form of art that lets a person express how they feel throw their words in the songs they play and should not be blamed for the things that parents do not enforce at home. The types of music we listen to now are becoming stigmatized as we know it. The way people live is made by the decisions that they make in life, not by the type of music that they listen too. Lyrics in popular music are not harmful to children, this can be seen through the benefits that music has on a person, because they help educate young children, they benefit people who are having medical problems and they act as emotional stimulates. These are reasons on why lyrics from popular music are not harmful to children development.
Today, as Sergio greets me at the office, he immediately tells me that he is going to explain and show me some practicalities about production, as he wants to share his experience with me. While I observe him dealing with his daily duties, he also illustrates me how a typical project is set up, from its early phases. Music Production involves making decision since the beginning of the project, after having making an agreement with an artist, that usually Sergio spots himself, by listening to demos and taking suggestions from collaborators, friends in his professional network. He also admits that it is extremely rare for him to listen to a demo and suddenly decide to produce something: “Music always takes sometime, at least for me. I want to
Music plays a huge role in the structure of a society. It can have both negative and positive influence on cultures and communities. First, musical sounds and instruments can be a dividing factor between the people within the same culture. These opposing social and economic identities within these cultures can lead unnecessary animosity between the members. However, music can also be one of the forces that unite members of a culture and provide a sense pride for everyone. This makes it easier for people to display their identification to that culture.
Music has always been a basic form of expression. From Antonin Dvorak, to Eminem, to even ancient, tribal music, it has been a medium through which individuals convey their thoughts and expressions. Today this medium is under attack. Everywhere we turn, everything we do and say is being scrutinized. We are being told what to say. We are being spoon-fed our emotions. No longer are we allowed to think freely, openly. All the censors out there are on the prowl for another piece to rip to shreds because it doesn't fit their description of what is decent and moral. What they fail to realize is that we don't make the music for them... We do it for release.
The idea that music leads its listeners to participate in deviant acts can be left up to each individual’s opinion. The truth is, is that there is not sufficient research to prove or disprove whether music has a strong influence, if any, on the listener’s choices to engage in deviant behaviors. One thing for certain is that music can influence a population’s appearance and culture. Whether or not music causes listeners to be deviant, music will continue to be produced and played around the world.
My love for music has existed for as long as I can remember. When I was a child,
Although some may say that music doesn’t directly affect the way a person acts, there has been evidence to prove that it does in fact change emotions and the way people act. Music heavily influences a person’s mindset by shaping what they place value on in the world or what they might hold dear. Music also tends to affect people’s persona and how they portray themselves to the world. Certain types of music are associated with certain demographics of people. For example, hip hop music is usually associated with the black community, and black men and women have strong connections with its songs and lyrics. Objectifying hip hop music
After that I researched different kinds of music. How many kinds are there in America? Thousands! There are so many the list would go on and on. Some of the more popular kinds are: rock, jazz, religious, alternative, and also classical. What is popular and what is not has changed a lot over the years, I doubt anyone in 590 A.D. ever even thought of rock music!
Also, music plays an important role in culture by being entertaining. Let's face it; people listen to music because it's exciting! It can affect a person's thoughts and feelings towards a particular subject, but not ultimately change their mind, which is what makes it so pleasurable. What else would put life in the world if music didn't? Music provides background music for almost everything in a person's everyday life. Try to imagine what television would be like without music. There would be no catchy jingles to stupid commercials that would end up getting stuck in your head for days and no theme songs to your favorite shows. Even a movie without sound would make you not want to watch it. Whether you think so or not, a soundtrack to a movie makes a person emote to the screenplay more- it makes you feel what the actors are feeling. That is what makes it so entertaining! If there were no songs to a movie, you might as well just not watch it at all. And what about a cell phone? How would you know when to pick up your phone if you didn't hear it ring your favorite song? Hearing that ring tone on a phone provides a small source of entertainment, but also serves a very important purpose.
Music and the need for music has been around almost since the beginning of time, but just in this century, there has been many changes to music and how its made. Starting in the 1900s, the common music genre were ballads and religious music, although a new type of music was creeping up from the south, ragtime. Ragtime being a happy, upbeat type of music, and was considered by I...
For me personally, music appreciation is defined as looking at different pieces of music and musical forms, and learning to find appreciation for them. This appreciation is formed not only by listening to several pieces of music, but by learning to understand what you may be listening too. This involves introducing yourself to many pieces of music and learning to interpret, what makes each piece different and unique. Understanding the historical background and societal changes that have taken place during the creation of the musical piece, is also an important factor to consider. Music is not only creative, but it also makes up part of a societies history. Music is an art form that connects different societies and cultures together, it possess the amazing ability to make us into one.
Through music we are able to comprehend someone’s personality, their views, their culture, and who they are as an overall person. The music you listen to is a reflection of who you are and your own personal thoughts. As I reflect on the music I listen to I came to the conclusion that I gravitate towards songs that depict the emotions we feel through lyrics while being able to relate it to my own personal experiences.
