The first Psychology class (PSY 101) I took was my freshman year at Central Washington University in 2010. I got a C out of that class, and decided that Psychology overall wasn’t for me at the time. It wasn’t until I gave Psychology 2nd chance in my junior year of college. After taking a couple Psych courses I decided to pursue a major. When I began my Psych major, my goal was to end the major with at least a 3.0 GPA. I also had a goal of getting more in depth in the psychological processes of the mind. Cognitive Psychology with Professor Ralph Greenwald helped with that. In his class I learned that the mind and the brain are two different concepts (I used to think when people referred to the mind or the brain, that it was the same thing). …show more content…
During my senior year at Central, my goal was to get through the mini-series of research methods and Statistics required for the major with at least a B or better; I am proud to say I passed those classes with A’s and B’s. Another goal I had in mind at the time was either deciding what I wanted to pursue, either a Master’s degree in Psychology, or use my Psychology major to go into nursing; I decided to follow the Nursing route and looked at Nursing schools around the are and what pre-requisites they required. My goal following graduation is to start the following Fall quarter of 2015 at YVCC and take the last 3-4 classes that I need to be able to apply to their Nursing school with at least a B or better. My goal five years post-graduation is to have had some experience in the nursing field so I am able to apply to a job that I want and remain stable with it. My goal at this time is also to move out of my parent’s house and start my own life in with a job and enough money for an
One of my goals I want to accomplish is to get the highest degree possible in college. I want to major in nursing and the highest degree in nursing is a doctorate level degree. Even though I have to get my bachelor’s and master’s degree first, I will accomplish my goal and get my doctorates. I am currently focusing on school and getting excellent grade so I can get into a good college. I also occasionally look up medical things and, learn more things about my future career on the internet. This will help me prepare for what I have to do and what my expectations are being a Neonatal Nurse.
I am headstrong in finishing my goal to pursue my education. These circumstances are the reason I started Nursing and going to continue Nursing.Getting an education was very important to me back in 1987 and it still important to me today! I hope to study the bachelor of Nursing course through WGU so that I can continue to accelerate in my Nursing career.
I am currently an English 160 student who is hoping to move on to the next course, which is English 161. I understand the requirements for English 161. It require students to explore a topic in some depth and conduct independent research related to that topic. Conducting research allows students to learn what it is like to participate in academic culture, posing questions about important issues and developing an argument in response to what others have said. It expected students to learn the most valuable skill in college, which is critical thinking. Students have to be able to read challenging readings. Although I still have problems with English, I think I’m qualified to move on.
I will begin my education at Germanna in the fall of 2017 and later transfer to a university to get my bachelors. Pushing myself towards my bachelors can impact my future greatly. Attending Germanna’s nursing program will take about 3 years in total. I have a semester of prerequisites that I have to take before I can even apply to their nursing program. After that semester, there is an application process that everyone applying has to go through. If accepted into the program, I will be attending for two years as a full time student. In that time, I will earn my education and prepare myself for the state test that Virginia provides to all students earning their degree as RNs. After passing the state test and completing my courses at Germanna, I will graduate as a Registered Nurse. In my last year of Germanna’s program, I will have options to specialize in a field of nursing. In that time, I will learn everything and anything about becoming a great labor and delivery
Nursing is a special field of work that requires a well-rounded, dedicated individual with a vast variety of aptitudes such as: patience, empathy, respect, the ability to be detail oriented, creativity, social interaction skills, flexibility, critical thinking skills, and interpersonal skills. All of which I have been fortunate enough to establish and build upon through my education and 9+ years of experience as a certified nurse’s aide. Based upon my knowledge of Molloy’s College Bachelors of Science in nursing dual degree program for second degree students, I believe I would be an excellent fit. I am a hard worker with a considerable amount of experience in providing basic patient care, I demonstrate dedication to the field of nursing and I am prepared for the challenges associated with the
Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
My courses and experience has empowered, and has reinforced my determination to pursue a career as a nurse. I am eager and excited about starting nursing school, and having my dream which started as a young girl to come full circle. I am convinced I am a good candidate because I have the innate drive to complete the program. I am willing to learn and use those skills and knowledge acquired to provide something meaningful to the society and humanity. I have the personal determination to face the challenges and rigors of nursing school. With hard work, perseverance, and determination I believe I have the essential character to be successful as a nursing student and an excellent quality nurse in the near future. A degree in nursing paves ways for other degrees to emerge especially for those interested in furthering their education in health care. I am committed to continue to pursed advanced degree in nursing ultimately becoming a nurse practitioner. . In the next five to ten years from now, I want to write articles and books about nursing and healthcare related. Therefore, I believe that if I improve myself further positively, I will grow from strength to strength and one day my paper will be read in one of the prestigious newsletters, journals, and textbooks. I know the sky is my starting
Upon being accepted at the Georgia Military College, I determined that I would spend my two years retaining everything I could in order to successfully become a registered nurse. Not only does getting my associates degree in Science and Pre-Nursing get all of my prerequisites out of the way, it is preparing me for my further education afterwards. In high school, every career goal test and
My immediate goals after completing this program is to take some time off from school, pay off our (additional) student loans, and when the time is right possibly evaluate the feasibility of pursuing my Bachelor Degree in Healthcare Administration or continue on in trying to obtain my Master 's Degree in Nursing. However, I currently foresee immediate challenges to those plans - my eldest child, my son, is currently a junior in high school, aspiring to become a Pharmacist and attend UH Hilo. In addition, my daughter, who is three years younger to my son, is aspiring to become an Ophthalmologist. So as with any parents, I may put my goal aside to help both my children achieve their goals.
I received Principal’s List awards in elementary school, participated in the International Baccalaureate magnet program in middle school, and graduate in the top ten percent of my high school class. College was personally mandatory for me. If my mom didn’t encourage me to go to college, I had the drive and determination within myself to attend college. Attending a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) was definitely a desire of mine, and I knew I wanted to attend a school in Georgia in order to receive HOPE scholarship. I originally choose Albany State University because it was the only HBCU in Georgia to have an accredited Forensic Science degree program. Soon after I got here, I decided to change my major to Psychology. The reason for this was the realization of not enjoying lab work, and I was also more interested in the science of arts rather than natural sciences. Psychology is a very interesting and intellectual field of study and I enjoy the opportunities to observe and interact with others who have the same interest. Once I receive my B.A. in December, I plan on attending graduate school for the study of marriage and family therapy, and I would like to receive a Ph. D in Clinical Psychology. I have yet to decide on a school, but I am working on making my decision at the moment. My long-term career goal is to become a marriage and family psychologist and own my own practice. I would also like to work
While looking back over the years and my learning in my personal life as well as at work and as a student I have experienced a great deal of experiences that prepped me for my Flex Path Psychology program. I believe that humans subconsciously use psychology everyday through rationalizing, interacting with others, and adjusting to stressors. As a student I received basic knowledge of psychology principles while obtaining my Associates of Art in Psychology as well as in the start of my Bachelors of Science in Social Science. As an online student, that was in a traditional online setting I realized that I use my personal knowledge and intrapersonal intelligence better when I’m allowed to set my own deadlines and focus more on my learning than those of my peers. I have often encountered other students that weren’t as engaged in the material as I was and their inability to give me feedback or create dialogue hampered my learning, the case was the same in a traditional classroom. Flexpath actually meets most of my expectations, I am allowed to have the independence that I need and set a target date that works for faculty and myself.
My RIP companion essay was a complete mess with no structure in the first draft. I believe it was because I had procrastinated to complete both the first drafts for the RIP project and essay. I finished my RIP project then moved on to my companion essay, and the transition was vastly different because in the RIP project I was writing for a different audience than in the companion essay, which was an academic audience. In addition, I forgot that we had been given a prompt with specific instructions and guidelines for the companion essay, which gave the structure for the essay. My professor, Delany-Ullman also points out that “For most essays, you should NOT include your textual evidence in your topic sentence. Your topic sentence should make
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work in see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded. Some of the skills I had shocked me as I didn’t think I had those capabilities in me.
The course Psychology 361: Introduction to Clinical Psychology served as an introduction to the profession and personal life of clinical psychologists. We discussed the ethical and legal issues, the importance of the client-therapist relationship, the rights and responsibilities of the client and the therapist and the different types of therapy within this field of practice. However, after evaluating these concepts in depth, I have come to find some of the material surprising, interesting and difficult to understand. After recognizing my interests and conflicts within clinical psychology, I was able to evaluate myself and determine this profession would not suit me as an individual.
Every career requires specific soft skills in order to consider pursuing degree in that specific field. As a psychology major, some of the soft skills I need are Communication, Time management and Critical thinking. It’s very important for me to be fascinated with what I do in order to help others. The reason I picked these three soft skills is because having these skills can make me a great psychologist.
