942 Words2 Pages

In every walk of life there is some type of organizational structure, whether school, churches, social, sports, or labor, organizational issues, culture, and management change. The world of organizational development (OD) presents professional approaches to weakness and strengths used to turn negative outcomes into positive one and develop strategies that will promote productivity, effective growth and profits. “Successful change in organizations happens with specific purpose and requires leadership” (Brown, 2012, p. 1). This paper is the answer to an assignment about real world OD principles. This assignment makes me the owner of a 100-employee retail dry good store. The store is located in a town where the major employer is an automotive support industry who has just announced that they are relocation their facility to Mexico. This paper will discuss how as storeowner will apply organizational development principles in order to insure continued operation of my business. OD can be the process of organizing for a particular purpose, in my case to promote continued operation of my business, so I will begin with a diagnostic process to determine my strengths and weakness, next I will develop intervention strategies, and finally communicate the intervention by building teams to empower my employees to adopt this intervention that will cause my business to continue.

Diagnosis is based on an understanding of how an organization functions, (Brown, 2012, p. 127). I will write down what has happen in the past, I brought items to support the automotive support industry, first the positive and then the negative, this forms what is called a force field analysis, because this shows forces working against one another to balance my market....

Improving my customer service, offering new products, increasing knowledge of new products and vendors, increased advertisement, lower prices, along with employee empowerment and training will cause my dry good store to be in a better position to survive the loss of old customers. I believe a well devised Organization development intervention will benefit and extend my business.
