I rev the throttle of my blue Yamaha dirt bike, as I put it into first gear. I race past my brother on his small navy four-wheeler. As I speed up, the wind starts blowing strands of hair into my face, but I didn’t care because I was way ahead of my brother. Hearing his four-wheeler come up behind me, I gun my bike so that he couldn’t beat me. I was getting nervous as he stayed near my rear tire. I could hear the grips of our tires rubbing together as he tried to get past me. We both separate to go around some trees, making me lose my lead. We hit the turn mark, so we turn around and start to leave the yard we are riding in. I shift gears as I ride along the road in front of my house. I follow this until I get to the forest. I hit the ditch to cross over to the tall grass that stood in front of the woods. I push down my left foot a couple of times to lower the gear as I cross the tree line. I feel the dry tree limbs brush against my calves. The sting of the scratches reminds me why my mother tells me to wear pants. Our race is at a pause since the paths are too narrow to race. He catches up to me quickly and I let him pass me so he can knock over limbs with his four-wheeler. We hear the echo of our engines throughout the woods as the wheels of his four-wheeler crunch against fallen trees. As we get to a small creek, I see my brother stop in some mud. I don’t think anything of it, so I pull up behind him while waiting to cross.
