Public Schools are a result of the Government’s efforts to ensure affordable education is available to each child. It is as a result of the social functions of government. Private schools on the other hand, are an initiative of members of the community to supplement (and in some cases refine) the public school system. Even though private schools are deemed to have a higher student per resource ratio, public schools also have their appeal in drawing in students who are in the pursuit of a competitive environment.
In a school set up, it can be said that the teachers are the single most important resource. Even though books are the vaults of knowledge, it is a teacher who will unlock the potential within those vaults of knowledge and impart it on the students. Without a teacher, it would be difficult for most, if not all, students to gain sufficient knowledge from the learning process. In Private schools due to the high student to teacher ratio, the students are bound to get more specialized care and treatment. This in essence translates to higher quality education. The teachers are more hands-on in a private school set up. Since the school is owned by a private proprietor, the standards are set higher. The fee paid is usually higher meaning that better quality is expected. The teachers hold personalized review sessions and are able to handle the needs of the students adequately.
In contrast however, students in public schools do not receive the same amount of care. The public school system gets more students and does not have enough teachers to adequately man the students. ... right to express themselves in their own personal way. This freedom means that most are left to operate on their own when it comes to a social level. Students have the ability to fully enjoy their private time. They may not have such a wide range of inter-personal relationships since they do not interact with such a wide variety of people. The small numbers mean that they have experience in dealing with a narrow stream of people and may mostly develop small group-based friendships. In contrast, students in public schools have a wide range of relationships due to the larger numbers they have access to. They have a more vibrant social life with the ability to make friends enhanced by the sheer number of students. There is also the reduced possibility of loneliness. The public school systems allows for the fostering of friendships due to the nature of interactions.
