Be Still

Reading: Psalm 46 NIV

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” Psalm 46: 10-11 NIV

If you are a planner like me, your mind immediately does a rat race when given an idea or thought. I carry it out to completion in my mind to see if it is going to work out. I ask lots of questions and look at the idea from many different angles. This is very efficient in my own work of nursing, homemaking, mothering etc. When the idea is within our control we know that our project or situation operates by physical laws and that things have a purpose. But when the free will of other humans or God’s will is involved, it changes the matter.

It was really easy for me when I fostered children to go through the same process. Is it feasible? Will it work out? Is it a good idea? Do we fit together? What does everyone else think? Carrying these thoughts out in my mind and weighing them with other people's opinions was not going to work in this situation, because the unknowns were too variable.
