The analysis explored in this document is implementing a program UNIT for parents adopting a different race from their own. Adopting outside of a race is a life altering decision because of regulating mechanisms that condition people to accept or reject individuals based on their appearances. There are not any programs that guide transracial adoptions after they occur. Society as a whole has its own prejudices. The adoptive parents should know about their children’s cultural backgrounds. Society is not very conscience of prejudging it is just something that is a part of life. This is unfortunately one more issue dealt with by adopted children.
The program that is trying to be implemented will allow both the parents and children throughout life are preparing and building strong foundations for a great future. There is no program as of yet that is design for post transracial adoptions. UNIT will be very beneficial to the adoption community. The focus will be to strengthen adopted children’s cultural identity. Having that interaction between race and family shapes the future of a great outcome for adopted children. UNIT will provide the avenues allowing each and every child the opportunity to learn and experience their own journey toward self-discovery.
Program UNIT will definitely back the Multiethnic Placement Act, commonly known as MEPA of 1994. This act was set forth to keep children of color from staying in the system longer than necessary because parents of their own race and cultural groups are not obtainable. Puberty is a time where emotions are at an all-time high. UNIT will be the outlet for the children’s emotions. Another common issue among adopted children is the feelings of isolation and loneliness. Children believe that no one understands these feelings; within this program children of all ages will learn there are others that are in the same predicament they are in. This program will teach children to believe in themselves because everyone has something to bring to the table. UNIT is going to connect the dots helping parents take care of the body, mind, and spirit of each and every child they adopt. RACE: SMOKE AND MIRRORS The study of race and its social formation in the article "Racial Formations" by Michael Omi and Howard Winant challenge our socially accepted concepts of "race", race being defined as the social categorization of black, white, yellow and red people. Race plays a pivotal role in society because it has a overwhelming influence on an individuals life choices and outcome. Society has historically placed positive and negative stereotypes on different races. Whites are presented and in many cases perceived as the standard of civility and beauty. People of color are conveniently grouped together as disingenuous to American patriotism in addition to being subjected to perpetuating stereotypes such as being lazy, criminal, and deviant to general society.
The Multiethnic Placement Act of 1994 (MEPA) (P. L. 103-82), was enacted on October 20, 1994 by President Bill Clinton ("Multi-Ethnic Placement Act," n.d.). The MEPA was passed to prohibit any agency or individual receiving Federal assistance that is involved in the adoption or foster care programs from delaying or denying the placement of a child based on the race, color, or national origin (RCNO) of the child or the adoptive or the foster parent (Civic Impulse, 2017). Many potential adopted parents have experienced heartbreak, anguish and other problems that can be associated with adoption. There is an imbalance in the Nations foster care system and the system needs to be strengthening and the quality of services improved.
When I heard the clicks of heels in the hallway, I sat up attentively on the waiting couch. A pleasant looking woman came to greet me. She was in her mid fifties and introduced herself as Celeste Drury. She worked with the children home society, an adoption agency that is located in Oakland. I found Celeste through a family friend. The family friend knew my interest in learning about adoption and the criteria used for adoption processes. I was excited to meet Celeste and to learn about what she did. Settling in my chair, Celeste slightly cheered me. Celeste orphanage was licensed under the adoption agencies act. It has been in existence for many years. Children home society is in charge of providing adoption services in the entire state of California. I asked Celeste of its role and she said that it “helps parents to make informed decisions about their children, and also give tips on the adoptive parents” (Drury).

Foster Care System and Adoptions can be very beneficial to children, but it can also be a huge risk. It is very beneficial needed in the community; otherwise where would some children be? Although it’s also huge risk because it’s taking someone’s child away and one may never know how the biological parent may react. However, the beneficial portion outweighs the risk portion.

Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. Adoption recently has caused a hot-spot debate in Australia . Mr Rudd just argued that we should maintain the policy but I don’t agree with him. I am sure many of you are not satisfied with the current situation because we all clear this is not a great one. Adoption is so important because it is a way to change children’s lives. This debate is not about me and Mr Rudd; it’s about you and these children so you should make the best choice. For too long this policy has been disadvantaged to the children who are adopted or going to be adopted and those foster families. It’s the time to change. Relaxing the regulation of adoption within Australia and from overseas will be one of the liberal party’s aiming next term if I get your support. Adoption preservation and support services are called Keeping the Promise (KTP) because the promise that families make to an adoptive child is sacred. KTP services are offered in the homes of families in a 22 county area of downstate Illinois. It is more common for these adoptive families to be transracial. Therefore there are two different races within the family. Families of transracial adoptions have many unique qualities because they have two different cultures under one roof. The problem with transracial adoption is the cultural difference between the parents and the child. The family is not prepared to understand the child’s background or the child’s culture. Relatability is also something that the child needs in the household and this would something that this family would lack. Like we talked about in class the child would suffer because they do not have anyone in their family to relate to. A child’s self-esteem would most likely be lower than a child growing up in a same race family. The child does not see anyone in their family that looks like them so they feel as if they are not good enough. It is hard for a child to fully understand as to why they are different from their families and why they were not blessed to look like their family. Adoption has many pros and cons, such as cross-cultural. Cross-cultural in adoption is when a child and the adopting parents are two different races or come from two different cultures. Cross-cultural adoption is not the same thing as interracial adoption. Some people say that you should not do this because the child may not feel like they fit in with the family. Others say it is great that the child found a loving family that will be getting taken care of. The caring person would agree that it is good and okay to adopt a child with a different race or culture.
