I really enjoyed this video. It's crazy the amount of informaton that gets packed into a three minute video. I think the cartoon and music that accompanies it helps because you're being entertained as well as informed. I think it's easier for me to remember a fun fact from the video versus reading a whole chapter from a book. I think it's sad that King George thought so little of the colonists and decided to use them for his gain. The colonists originally set sail looking for more freedoms and a better way of life only to end up having to be controlled by the Britsh. They wanted to believe that King George would in fact give them a better lifestyle and went along with him. It wasn't long before they relaized they were only pawns being used
If I were put in the similar predicament of the American colonists, I believe that I would have agreed and sided with the radicals, also known as Patriots. The King forced the colonists to pay for the costs of the French/Indian War, as well as any war that the British participated in. The colonists were in every right, aspect and mind, not only justified but also it was about time that they stood of and actually take action against the British. The choice of going to war with them, was the only choice that they had. All diplimatical options that they had ceased to stand a chance against the tyrant Britain. From the very beginning when the colonists felt upset against their mother country and the way that they went about the law making, up until the beginning of the war, they tried all diplimatical options that they had, by sending letters, you name it. When they didn’t work then they had no other means but to declare war.
About one-third of the colonists were patriots who were ready to take any means necessary to fight for independence for their country. The patriots were so passionate about their cause that they would torture or even kill loyalists or indifferent people. Because of this strong passion, the colonists had much more to gain then the British had to lose. The British had other colonies and other forms of export and import to create a profit, but if the Colonists lost they would have lost their independence and freedom.
Patrick Henry once said, “give me liberty or give me death!” During the revolutionary war. The American revolution had begun in Lexington on April 9, 1775. This was where the first battle of the American revolution occurred. Through all the battles and acts the British had placed on the colonists, they had suffered greatly and decided to break away from Britain. But, were the colonists valid in disuniting from Britain and conducting war? The American colonists were justified in waging war and splitting from Britain because the British were unjust to the colonists , they imposed unnecessary acts against the colonists and the British ignored all requests for change.
The Americans had won their independence, much to the dismay of the British crown. King George III lost his American colonies for a number of reasons. Often in history textbooks the British are cast in an evil light, while the American colonists are seen as the underdogs who are fighting against tyrannical rule and striving for freedom for all.... ... middle of paper ... ... This wouldn’t be quite as terrible, but the hypocrisy of promising rights to all, where everyone is created equal and then doing the exact opposite, makes the matter worse. Women, natives, the poor, and blacks had to fight countless years just to be on the same level as their oppressors, with some taking much longer to gain anything close to equality.
It depends on the material that is read and who is asked. The American Revolution should never have happened. The British were not tyrannical, oppressive rulers although the American colonies perceived them to be so. The American colonists misperceptions led to revolution and independence.
The American colonists had evolved and created new ways of thinking in this brand new world they had just discovered. Although Great Britain only saw the colonists as just a branch of their government across oceans, the colonists had seemed to grow into the mission as more than just an expedition, but as a new nation. A big difference in the cultures of colonists and the British were that the colonists farmed straight resources and then shipped them out to other countries instead of using the materials to craft their own goods. This creates a large cultural difference due to the colonists having farming lifestyle instead of how life was in Great Britain. Theses cultural differences led to the colonists not supporting King George anymore, making him already unpopular before he made any taxation laws
Lawyer James Otis and other colonist rebels referred to King George as a tyrant. As stated by James Otis in The Rights of the British Colonies Asserted and Proved (1763), . . . “The very act of taxing exercised over those who are not represented appears to me to be depriving them of one of their most essential rights as freemen, and if continued seems to be in effect and entire disfranchisement of every civil right.” James Otis’s point of view seemed to express concerns for the civil and constitutional rights and liberties of the colonists.
Now, able to express their grievances and frustrations, the Colonies were able to essentially “stick it to the man” against Britain. Thomas Jefferson writes how Great Britain’s king had “impos[ed] taxes on [them] without [their] consent,” and “depriv[ed] [them] of the benefits of trial by jury.“ He goes on to say that the king had abolish[ed] [their] most valuable laws; and alter[ed] fundamentally the forms of [their] governments.” (Baym 342) This list of complaints goes on and on. The king took away all of their fundamental rights, and the colonists were fed up. Thomas Jefferson says that he didn’t just take away their rights, but he took away their basic human rights, and “waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating its most sacred rights of life and liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him.” (Baym 343) These are very strong words from Thomas Jefferson, but they reflect the way these colonists felt. In closing I would like to express how informing this video was on how children are conceived. It shows the audience what to expect and the changes that will occur and in what time frame. Children are miracles and this video proves it. There are many obstacles a woman must go thru to have a child. I think everyone should view this video as well as high school students. High school students who watch this would be more cautious about their actions and sexual behaviors, in my opinion.
