They are paid by club teams and franchises in associations such as Europe’s La Liga and Major League Soccer in the United States. Many of the world’s top soccer players play for European teams, such as the Manchester United and Real Madrid. The teams pay many players between $5 million and $20 million annually. The world’s most successful club team, Real Madrid, paid its top star, Cristiano Ronaldo, more than $20 million in 2012, according to Forbes.com. Soccer players often receive extra income from endorsements and participation with World Cup and Olympic teams.
