Many people in today’s world complain about how much Pro Athletes get pay. So I ask are Pro athletes overpaid? Look at it in this sense; they are living their dreams just like most business men do everyday. If you think that professional sports is not a job then just try to walk in the shoes of a athlete for a day. Sports, like medicine, healthcare, or software, are a business. In that business, owners pay their players what they deem they are worth.
Out of all of the professional leagues the three that make the most money are: MLB, NFL, and NBA. Together these three leagues make an astonishing $25.5 billion dollars every year. Some of wealthiest franchises from each league are; MLB: Yankees, NFL: Washington Redskins, and NBA: Lakers. Major League Baseball makes about $3.3 billion a year. The leading franchise in baseball is the Yankees which make $832 million every year. In the National Football League the Washington Redskins make the most out of any NFL team with $952 million made every year. As long as fans willingly pay $120 dollars for a replica jersey, six dollars a beer, and two thousand for courtside tickets to the Los Angeles Lakers, the owners will continue to pass on that money to their stars. People act like they're getting stiffed. Let me ask you, When was the last time, someone stuck a gun to your head and said 'Watch this football game or else'?
The athletes at these institutions bring in tons of money into their school every year and deserve compensation. These Universities are exploiting these athletes by not giving them back what they make for their school. The numbers say it all when it comes to the scamming of the athletes by their own schools. In 2004, over 40 schools brought in more than $10 million, with 10 of them bringing in over $30 million. Several athletes around the nation are worth more than $1 million to their school(Brown). Both of these statistics are proof that while these athletes are essential to their schools, they are still kept out of the revenue. Even though these Universities won’t pay their players, the schools still have no problem giving their coaches some money. Millions of immigrants flood into American with suitcases filled with nothing but hopes of achieving the American Dream. To walk down the streets paved with gold with golden cities in America: the land of opportunity became a universal dream. Unfortunately, when they arrived to America they were extreemly unhappy and disappointed because the streets are not paved with gold they are not paved at all and they have to pave them. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece, The Great Gatsby emphasizes that this American Dream does not exist. The over rated American dream is just a big illusion it’s an unobtainable ideology that places hope upon its prey: purposeless, poor, damned from the start people like Gatsby and Myrtle and ultimately destroys them.

Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. In the book, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the American Dream is interpreted very differently than its original meaning. The American dream is an ideal that has been present since the onset of American Literature. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's, The Great Gatsby, the American Dream is a critical theme throughout the novel. Fitzgerald, in an obvious way, makes a mockery of the American dream. From the novel, one can conclude that Fitzgerald believes in the idea that the American dream is a hoax, and one must be born into money in order to reap the benefits. Fitzgerald makes use of Gatsby’s dream of being with Daisy and his hunger for wealth and Daisy’s dream of having both financial security and love to portray the death of the American Dream.

Athletes are overpaid and people have had enough.

Sports are one of the most profitable industries in the world. Everyone wants to get their hands on a piece of the action. Those individuals and industries that spend hundreds of millions of dollars on these sports teams are hoping to make a profit, but it may be an indirect profit. It could be a profit for the sports club, or it could be a promotion for another organization (i.e. Rupert Murdoch, FOX).
