Problems Undocumented Immigrants Face

In the United States, some immigrants come for educational opportunities, but most of them overstayed, and their visas get expired, so they became “undocumented immigrants.” Being an undocumented affects them financially especially in higher education. For them to pursue a college education they have to deal with a lot of problems related to how to pay their college tuition. Undocumented immigrants have lower college acceptance rates, and lack of work opportunities because they do not have legal papers, however, they still can apply for scholarships and loans for help to pay the college tuition.

It's where things get complicated because undocumented immigrants can’t have high-pay jobs or minimum wage jobs, they can't even be able to work legally. Every employment requires having legal papers. One example is according to the New York Times article Young, Immigrant Struggles for a College Education” by Mimi Schiffman said “I don’t want to end up in the same cycle as my family is right now. We’re great, but it’s tough not having security about next week because you don’t know if you’re going to get a job next week or if you’re going to get paid for the job you just finished because maybe they’re just gonna be like ‘I’m not gonna pay you.” This example shows that undocumented immigrants work every day without knowing if they are going to lose their job the next day, and for the lack of employment it won’t be easy for them to find another job. If they are not able to work, their education will be affected because they would not be able to pay for their college
