Preparing for the SAT
I had the opportunity to take the SAT twice. It may seem that taking it twice could double the stress, but really, it took a bit of stress off of the whole thing. I knew that if I didn’t do well the first time, I had a second chance. However, that is not how it went; I believe I ended up doing better the first time than the second. I prepared for the SAT for about two months before I had to take it. To prepare, I used College Boards practice questions and practice tests. I could have improved however in my preparation. I did not do as much practice as I maybe should have. While I feel that I did pretty well on the SAT the first time, I could have probably done even better. I am glad that I did complete as much practice as I did though, without any practice, the test would have been extremely stressful and very new. Taking the SAT was not as stressful as I thought it would be. One thing I could have improved on was timing myself better on single questions. It is vital not to take too long on any single question, as each section of the test is on a strict time limit. I did well at this on the English parts of the test, but it was a bit trickier on the Math portions. Math is not my strong point, so I tried to focus the most on the Math as I practiced. The practice questions from College Board mirror the actual test questions very well, so doing as much math practice as I did prepared me very well for knowing what the math portions would be like on the SAT. English is my strong point, so I did not focus quite as much on English in my practice. However, I did do some practice with it just to get a feeling of what kinds of questions would be on the test.
