When I first started doing portrait photography, I wished there was a straight forward guide that explained to me what I needed to do to take awesome portraits. Every book that I read seemed like it contradicted the previous book. One Author would say, you should do things this way and another one would say you should it that way. Since I didn't know much about portrait photography at the time; they all seemed right. However, if everyone was right, then who should I have really listened to?

Some people might tell you - you NEED at least 8 MP for a good quality. Others might say - you MUST have at least 15 MP for a good quality photo. Then the camera company will say - you need this $10,000 camera which is 21 MP to take fantastic photos.
As a beginner, you might think more "Megapixels" means better pictures, right? I thought the same thing, but found out that's not always the case as there are other factors that are involved; such as camera exposure, light and so on.
I believe the better question you need to ask yourself as a beginner portrait photographer is what size pictures do you plan to print? Are you going to print - 4x6s, 5x7s, 8x10s, or 11x14s?
If you are only going to print 4x6s, you will need at least 800x1200 Pixel Resolution and 3 MP.

The art world of photography is changing all the time. Peter Schjeldahl starts out with a very strong and well written paragraph about the world of art. Peter Schjeldahl says, “You can always tell a William Eggleston photograph. It’s the one in color that hits you in the face and leaves you confused and happy, and perhaps convinces you that you don’t understand photography nearly as well as you thought you did”. These couple of sentences are very strong and flow so well together, and they grab the reader’s attention. Peter explains how William Eggleston was known as a great American photographer.

The book “On Photography” by Susan Sontag, she expresses several views and ideas about photography to educate us further about her views. In Sontag’s view, “To collect photographs is to collect the world” (Sontag 3). In other words, Sontag believes that the photograph that is taken will always be a photograph within society in his/her own world. I interpret the quote this way because if our life is captured in photographs, that’s our whole world. Even though we are capturing it through the lenses, we are still experiencing it some how, some way.
Photography is traced back to France in the 1800’s where the camera obscura was invented and in the late 1820’s to the 1830’s where a French inventor by the name of Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, invented the first camera and printed the first photograph on paper he is also credited with taking the first photograph1, but he wasn’t the only one working on this new invention, there were many others during this time period inventing different parts and making the camera better with each invention. It took time and many different inventors over years to create a process where they could turn a negative into a photo. By the late 1800’s photography was rising in popularity due to more families wanting portraits done and not being able to afford an artist for a sitting or being able to sit for such long periods though this wasn’t very favourable because it was so fragile and expensive to use and carry around.
As you can see, there is a big world waiting for you to capture and mold its image. Whether you just want to remember that sunset on your honeymoon, your little one’s first steps or even if you click your shutter at everything you pass… the right equipment certainly helps. Whatever equipment you use, with good lighting and attention to such details as film type and speed, distance from subject, rule of thirds, and an eye for what you want, you can make beautiful photos that you and yours will cherish for generations to come.
Now now, I know that it might not seem like an important topic to ponder over, but with the easy access to a camera on the iPhone, I thought it would be great to share some tips and tricks on the iPhone camera since not all of us own a professional camera or even have the time to head over to Martin Hall to check one out. I would have to say, the iPhone camera is one of the best invention since sliced bread. HAHA. Collage and photomontage can be interpreted as a highly effective technique of the Avant Garde movement, which questioned, critiqued, and dismantled the status of classical art, as well as the upper class, bourgeois society of the early twentieth century. Artists including Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Kazimir Malevich, Raoul Hausmann, and Hannah Hoch used different styles and aesthetic qualities, to portray different messages about modern life. Although the different artists are from different stylistic periods, the overarching theme of wanting to reject the traditional and the bourgeois and capitalist ideals can be seen across each style and each artist’s work. A collage a work of art which is made up of a collection of various materials, including paper and occasionally ready-made objects.
With the Internet playing such a large part of our daily lives, it is only natural that you should first do some basic searching to find a photographer. Any search engine will find a photographer's website in your area, although it might take a bit of digging through the results to find the websites that you are looking for. A good photographer will have a nice, sharp website with a sample of their work on it. Look for a photographer that has a variety of photos, that are all high quality. Good photographers have a large base of clients, so make sure that all of the pictures that you see are of different people.

Photojournalism plays a critical role in the way we capture and understand the reality of a particular moment in time. As a way of documenting history, the ability to create meaning through images contributes to a transparent media through exacting the truth of a moment. By capturing the surreal world and presenting it in a narrative that is relatable to its audience, allows the image to create a fair and accurate representation of reality.
Imagine printing what ever it is you need from your own office or home. In addition to that, you will have full control customizing the product and the printer will have no difficulties achieving your designs. All you have to buy is the ink and the material additives and the printer will do the rest.
Without a doubt, being a highly respected photographer would be my dream career. The type of job that wouldn 't feel like a job because it is one of my favorite hobbies. Growing up I always noticed how much longer I took to take a picture of someone than when they did the same for me. I soon realized that I actually had a passion for getting the right shot that I understood that not every pictures the same and that certain angles made others look better in places. The praise I received for taking a lot of these pictures motivated me. I liked that I hardly ever got told to take these pictures over and I loved that I was always the one chosen to take them time after time. Once I understood that I had this passion for photography I made sure a camera was the first thing on my Christmas list that year. I also knew that there was nothing but room for improvement, so i sought out private lessons which I worked and saved up for.
