Polymer Creature Lab Report

Polymer creatures are very fascinating, because they can grow when put in liquids, and experiments are going to be conducted relating to this growing. A polymer is a very long chain of molecules strung together (What). Polymers are very versatile, and can have almost limitless colors and characteristics (Definition). One of these qualities is absorbency, and some can absorb as much as five hundred times their weight in water (Growing). It is hypothesized that if the polymer creatures are submerged in water for a day it will at least double in size, while it will not grow as much when put in Sprite. The Polymer Creature Experiment seems like a simple experiment, but there are many steps that must be followed. Firstly, actually get a polymer creature, along with water, Sprite, and cups. Take one of the cups with water, and …show more content…

Increments of five minutes were used for measuring the creatures. By the end of the experiment, the creature in Sprite had grown to double in length. The creature grown in water also doubled exactly in length. However, while the lengths were the same, creature two gained much more mass than creature one. Creature one grew from one point zero five grams to four point seventy-four grams. In comparison, creature two started the same as creature one, and grew to five point six grams. To conclude from the results of the experiment, the hypothesis, which was that the creature in water would double in size, while the creature in Sprite would not grow as much, was correct. Both creatures doubled in length. However, the creature growing in water gained more mass than the creature in Sprite. During this experiment, it was learned that water is more absorbent than Sprite. Much information was gathered, and reliable answers were gained from the tests
