Throughout my life sports had always had a huge impact on me.I have been playing baseball since I was 5 years old. In high school I have played baseball all 4 of my years being at Watsonville High. Playing sports at school gives you the experience of making new friends and having fun playing the sport you love and representing your school. I have also noticed that playing a sport during school also gives you the stamina to keep your grades up because you want to be able to play the sport you love. Playing baseball in high school will help you improve because you practice almost everyday and you are constantly trying your hardest. Baseball is a unique sport in many different ways. It is the only major competitive sport that has no time limit. The success of a player is determined on how well he can play as an individual and how well the team plays along with him. There are many rules that determine the success of a player’s performance. A baseball game is played with two teams and each team is permitted 25 players per team; however this is only true for professional teams. There are three parts to baseball: offense, pitching, and defense.

Therefore, according to this logic religion then can be anything that creates a following that people can be tied and bound to, which can include how religion can be seen as something such as power, money, or even fame. Thus it can be argued that under these conditions of what a religion can consist of, it would be safe to say that a major professional sport such as baseball can also have the sufficient requirements or conditions needed for it to be considered as a religion as well. Therefore it can be argued that baseball in and of itself is a religion due to the fact that just like other types of religions baseball creates a following that people can be tied and bounded to. Meeting new friends, finding my second family, learning the definition of hard work, discovering something to dedicate my life to: softball. Growing up in this constantly changing world softball is the one thing that has always been constant. Softball helps me to escape from the worries and struggles of everyday life. It has taught me coordination, been my escape, fueled my passion, inspired my competitiveness, and given me strength.
Joining a high school baseball team was a commitment. It took over every second of my life; it occupied my every thought and motivated everything I did. My high school baseball team was not easy to become a part of. First I needed prove my skills in tryouts. Then I had to prove my credibility and demonstrate those skills in games while under pressure. Finally I needed to become a brother to every player on that team, I had to be there and have the backs of every single person who shared the dugout with me. My experiences of joining the team included needing to demonstrate and master the logos, ethos, and pathos skills required to be a member of that sacred brotherhood.

Sports help them stay in shape because, the Aspen Institute, a nonprofit organization that does humanistic studies, said, “Exercise is one of the least expensive ways to stay healthy, with one study finding that exercise can prevent chronic diseases as effectively as medication,” (Aspen Institute). One of the many benefits of playing sports is that the children will build character. Building character is important because with character they will make new friends and develop different skills. Playing sports at a young age can build character in many ways, “Playing sports at a young age enables children to participate in social interactions and build skills such as teamwork, leadership, and responsibility as they learn to work with others to achieve a common goal,” (Aspen Institute).
Baseball has been a part of me for quite a while now. I have done something baseball related each week for the past several years. It has really changed what I like to do in my spare time, and it has also changed my priorities. This was the first sport I would have played, and I haven’t played a different sport since the start of playing baseball. There were and still are so many ways baseball has changed my life.
It has also taught me to have a personal drive for a sport and to have motivation to become better at something. This sport has also done many things in my life that I will forever be grateful for. For instance this sport will now being pay for my entire college. Baseball has helped me connect with people all across the country and showed me how to be self confident in myself. Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.
It will encourage students to try their best to accomplish superior grades. It opens their eyes in a different perspective on behavior as well as stronger scholastic peer relationships. It gives students activities excluding school work, because teenagers generally focus their mind on unacceptable actions. Parents commonly show passion along with appreciation when their child/children play a sport. They get to have a closer relationship and be elaborate with them more often than normal. Frequently, students do not care about their reputation or acknowledge the adults’ opinions on themselves; but in my opinion, playing sports and being mostly involved with their schools presents an improved character while in school and once they graduate. I was once told that “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” Additionally, self-esteem in high school is hard to come by, occasionally sports help! Sports cause you to interact with other people and uplift you to do better. It presents a sharpened perspective on your schoolwork, career, future, and life altogether. In some cases, playing a sport can benefit you in an enhanced form. Scholarships can be a broad opportunity for valuable players with a good education on their shoulders. As well as, college recruitment can be another option. Money is hard to come by for college and if that seems to be a struggle for a student playing a sport can help tremendously. That
Participation in sports has proven to increase self-discipline and self-esteem, and can teach athletes to learn from their mistakes and move on (Issitt). Athletes playing team sports also develop the ability to work well with others and use teamwork in their everyday lives. Teammates form relationships that are strengthened over a common passion and goal. These relationships can last long after high school is over (Chen). These social skills translate into better communication used with an athlete’s family, peers, and in the community. Likewise, “A 2006 study in Maryland found that student athletes are 15 percent more likely than non athletes to be involved in their communities and to take the time for civic engagements, including participating in voting and volunteer activities” (Issitt). The same study also concluded that athletes are far more likely to be comfortable with public speaking than non-athletes. Many would disagree with me and say that high school sports actually have more benefits than negativities for a student. For example a student in sports would be more active which would make them fitter and healthier. People who play sports bond over a common interest. This opens up children to meeting new kids and socializing with many more. In Kindergarten, I played baseball. Even though I did not truly understand all the mechanics of the game, I met new friends and began to develop motor skills. This was very useful starting at an early age and pushed me to stay active throughout my life.
The involvement in team sports builds good character and social development skills in children. According to LHSAA executive director, Kenny Henderson “Children who participate in sports have heightened self-esteem, social skills, ability to work well with others and more respect.” Young adults who have played team sports are less likely to take illegal drugs. Adults who played sports as children have better social and leadership skills. Sports provide children with experiences and interactions necessary to grow into an adult with good character and sufficient social skills. Team sports in grade school can offer children and teenager an outlet for stress and negative emotional build-up. Coaches, practices, games or meets and traveling all have a large impact on a person’s charter. Most children who have played a team sport at some time have character traits found in highly successful adults.
