Many people wonder how some people are so good at basketball? The most obvious answer to that question is practice, practice, practice. When a person decides in their mind that they want to take up basketball, they have to get ready to put in all the work that comes along with it. There are drills, workouts, and equipment that can and will help people on their journey to learning and eventually mastering this sport. Before people dive into the workouts and drills, they need to first familiarize themselves with the rules of basketball. This way they will know the correct way to play the game and will be on their way to being successful in the sport. I started the actual physical phase with dribbling drills. First, I bounced the ball freely for a while just to get the feel of the ball. Then, I started the drills with between the legs dribbling thirty times. When I finished the between the legs drill, I began to bounce the ball with each hand for 25 times each. I would then get another ball and bounce two balls at a time for 25 times. The last ball handling drill I would do was my sprint dribble with cones drills. In this drill, I would run from the baseline to the half court line doing different dribble moves through the cones. Defense is needed to stop the other person or team from getting any points. If the other person is able to score the ball, the chance of winning the game is decreased. Some drills that I used to increase my defensive abilities are suicides, boxing out, and denying the ball. Suicides are done to build endurance in order to keep up with the other teams. With suicides, I started on the baseline and ran from baseline to the free throw line and back, then from the free throw line to the half court line and back. The next drill was boxing out. These were done to prevent any opponent from getting a rebound and having a chance to score again. With this drill, a person puts a body on the defender and gets into a position where they are the only person with the chance of getting the rebound. Lastly, denying the ball is a drill done to prevent the other team from getting the ball in a favorable place to score. With this drill, you play the opponent a close as you can without fouling them.
