Where the Paths Meet Growing up in a small town, there is not much for children to do to escape, which can cause a downward spiral for most to make unwise decisions that will affect them for a lifetime. I, however, did not fit that mold. At an early age I fell in love with something that I did not know would be part of my life more than fifteen years. I was engrossed at a young age and my drive was contagious. Dance is a language that everyone can understand, yet only few survive long enough in the dance world to pass the torch to the next child, and I was blessed enough to be one of the few. I was granted the once in a lifetime opportunity to teach. Not only does teaching give me an opportunity to dance, but a chance to learn, grow and watch people do the same. I was always the shy girl that did not talk or do much, I was a good dancer, certainly not a great one, just one that worked hard and made do with what she had. Meeting new people was never easy so of course my first class, that consisted on constantly meeting children and their parents and trying to remember their names was a nightmare. I was just a kid so no one really believed me, most of them growing up with me and not far in age from me. The excitement and drive children have is such a special thing that cannot be taught. Teaching for the first time is when I earned the nickname “Ms. Quesadilla” and to hear the sweet chime of “Ms. Quesadilla I did it, I did it!” never failed to make me smile. I have no doubt that without my babies I would not be the person I am today. The life lessons I have gained from my students have changed my life forever. The innocence and desire to learn I see in their eyes makes my heart so happy. It gives me the energy each week to continue teaching and making a positive difference in each student’s
