Have you ever considered that by protecting your rights, you may be violating someone else’s? This has been a conundrum for generations. As a resident of the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C., I have recently witnessed controversy over the transgender community using public restrooms. Due to discrimination towards the transgender community and that aforementioned debate, this is considered a societal moral issue. There are laws that have been put into place to protect and give the transgender community rights to use the restroom of which they identify by. I also believe that transgender individuals should be given the right to choose the restroom of which they identify with because no one knows their former gender identity.

They shouldn’t be changed suddenly to adapt to current gender issues, would be thoughts from an egoist. According to the Utilitarianism approach by Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill’s, “an egoist is concerned with the pleasures of the self, not others.” Allowing Gavin to use the boy’s restroom is unfair to the other students. You are putting children in uncompromising situations. They shouldn’t have to change their normal routine, and or feelings to accommodate Gavin. He is causing unnecessary controversy and should stick to using the faculty’s restroom. According to Zachary Schurin “Judge Dorman says that G.G. isn’t being considerate of other students. Students may experience feelings of exclusion when they can no longer use the restrooms, they were accustomed to using because they feel that G.G.’s presence in the male restroom violates their privacy.” I believe the rights of G.G. are being violated to protect the feelings of
