There are 5.2 million to 9.5 million U.S. adult citizens that identify themselves as LGBT (Lesbian, Gay. Bisexual, and Transgender). Roughly 3.6 percent of women aged between 18 and older identify as LGBT, as well as 3.3 percent of men. “As many as 2 million to 3.7 million U.S. children under age 18 may have a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender parent, and about 200,000 are being raised by same-sex couples” (Gates 67). Same-sex marriage is being passed globally. It is acceptable in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Brazil, France, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, and Uruguay. Just because society rejects the practice of homosexuality, doesn’t mean they have the right to discriminate against people that identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, or any other means. People that are opposed to same-sex marriage think it would undermine traditional marriage, that it could open to what isn’t “natural” or “by God’s means” (Same-sex marriage) it will allow incest, bestiality, and other immoral things to be “acceptable”. However, that is going too far. People that identify as homosexual are not doing any of that. They are human beings too; they just do not like the opposite sex as a partner or being attractive. In most cases depending on what they call themselves they might not find them attractive. They should have all their rights like everyone else. They should be allowed to get married because the right to marry is protected under the Equal Protection Clause, the Fourteenth Amendment, and the Due Process. Marriage is a union for a man and a woman. And it involves the procreation of children. This is the most tremendous reason why people are so resistant to same-sex marriage. Because of their beliefs they say that the Bible tells them that lesbian and gay parenting and marriage is unnatural and sinful. Many lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people believe in God, yet they are rejected by churches and even family, having to feel a betrayal that they cannot be who they want to be because of the others that think it is an abomination. They often say and believe that naturally God loves all his children and that it is okay to sin, that God will love and except them. But they think LGBT’s are sinful and wrong to the world and going against God. If God loves everyone, then why would he not love LGBT people? People that are against same-sex marriage and parenting fail to provide actual hard examples that lesbian and gays are harmful and sinful to outweigh the benefits of what same-sex marriage and parenting can bring. Homosexuality is viewed as “wrong” but one cannot just say that based on biblical verse that something is wrong or right. They say that in biblical proof texts that God said that marriage involves a man and a woman, to “become one flesh” and to have children, so they interpret that homosexuality is ruled out and that by God, acts of homosexuality is an abomination and marriage is
