Playing school sports are very helpful for students. School sports give overloaded athletes a break from their limitless studies and empower them to exercise in a fun, enjoyable way. Empowering high school students to exercise cuts back on the growing obesity problem we have in our country and keeps them healthy and active. Similarly, school sports allow students to be a part of a competitive team, develop positive relationships with their peers, and represent their school. Students who are in school sports also achieve better in school than those who do not participate in school sports. Furthermore, engaging in school sports also teaches students to set goals, and to work hard to achieve those goals. School sports make student athletes be interactive with their peers. At the same time, we all know students spend way too much time on electronics these days. From a personal perspective, I love school sports because it gets me up and moving, having fun, without a device in my hand. In effect, we are able to talk with one another instead of messaging them. Obesity is a common problem in teens, consequently, one third of the high school students in the United States are overweight or obese. School sports, would eliminate obesity in children. Pediatrician, Dr. Drake, says "Kids should get 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity a day, but many fall short of this," (New York Times "Sports seen as a key weapon in fighting obesity).
