Shannon Moroney's book, Through the Glass, is a biography about her experience and personal victimization. Shannon at age 30 had been married to her husband ,Jason, for one month and was away at a school guidance counslors conference when her world would forever change. She was notified by a police officer that her husband was arrested for sexual assault. Shannon was needed by the police back in Peterborough to answer some questions with mixed emotions and shock she was unable to driver herself so she informed her parents who would take her there. Thoughts like just talking to Jason thirty minutes before he made the call to the police to turn hinmself in and not noticing any change in him. Throughout the story Melinda describes the pain she is going through every day as a result of her rape. The rape of a teenage girl often leads to depression. Melinda is convinced that nobody understands her, nor would they even if they knew what happened that summer. Once a happy girl, Melinda is now depressed and withdrawn from the world. She hardly ever speaks, nor does she do well in school. She bites her lips and her nails until they bleed.
